NCAA Basketball Tournament Simulation - Part 2

Welcome Back!

Operation Sports, with a little help from 2K Sports’ College Hoops 2K6 and an Xbox, are running our very own virtual 2006 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

If you haven’t checked out Part 1, you’ll see that the first two rounds were full of a wide array of blowouts and squeakers, dominance and upsets. A few Cinderellas are still dancing and a few powerhouses are looking to punch their tickets to Indy.

Who’s cutting down the nets?

Who’s hoisting the hardware?

Who’s the best in College Basketball in 2006?

Let’s tip it up!

Minneapolis Region

Sweet 16

#1 Villanova – 68
#4 Boston College – 60

#6 Oklahoma – 77
#2 Ohio State – 66

Elite 8

#1 Villanova – 69
#6 Oklahoma – 70

Knocking off #2 and #1 in the Region, the Sooners earned a place in Indy with an impressive run through Minneapolis.

Washington D.C. Region

Sweet 16

#1 Connecticut – 89
#5 Washington – 67

#14 Murray State – 52
#2 Tennessee – 59

Elite 8

#1 Connecticut – 91
#2 Tennessee – 66

The Huskies were simply too much for the DC Region rattling off four wins by an average margin of victory of 17.5 points. UCONN has been the only #1 seed playing like they deserved it. That’s why they cut down the nets in the Nation’s Capitol.

Atlanta Region

Sweet 16

#8 George Washington – 79
#4 LSU – 64

#3 Iowa – 60
#7 California – 74

Elite 8

#8 George Washington – 60
#7 California – 74

It’s been a long 47 years since Cal claimed the 1959 National Championship over West Virginia. Now they’re poised to take their #7 seed into Indy for a shot at the prize. Consistency has been the name of the game the Bears, systematically disposing of their opponents on their way through the region.

Oakland Region

Sweet 16

#8 Arkansas – 69
#13 Bradley – 63

#3 Gonzaga – 56
#10 Alabama – 69

Elite 8

#8 Arkansas – 69
#10 Alabama – 56

After Back-to-Back appearances in the Championship game in 1994 and 1995, the Razorbacks are finally making another run at the crown. Oakland quickly became the Cinderella Region, so it’s not surprise that a hot 8-seed is on its way to the RCA Dome.

Final Four

#1 Connecticut – 77
#6 Oklahoma – 65

#7 California – 68
#8 Arkansas – 66

While Connecticut kept rolling, it took a buzzer-beater from Cal to earn a trip to the Finals. Oklahoma and Arkansas both ended impressive runs with fantastic efforts in the Semis.

Championship Game

#1 Connecticut – 72
#7 California – 65

The University of Connecticut Huskies are the 2006 NCAA Men’s Basketball Champions! The Huskies claimed their 3rd National Championship and their 2nd in three years.
