You may have heard the following phrases used from time to time.
Look! It's a bird! It's a Plane! It's ...
Not Superman. But ... Digital Bo Jackson!?!
Then there's the one about when Digital Bo Jackson does pushups, he's not pushing himself up, but he's pushing the world down. (Sorry Chuck. Bo Knows Pushups).
Digital Bo Jackson in Tecmo Super Bowl was the epitome of what every man, woman, child dreams they could be.
He would send young kids and grown men crying into shame when their defenses tried to master the Raider offense he chaired. There was absolutely no defense, no cure and no game plan that could keep Tecmo-Bo from getting his 100 ... or 200 ... or 300 ...or 800 yards.
Some Maddenites complained about Michael Vick when Madden 2004 hit store shelves because he was seemingly unstoppable. You could always tell from those players who was younger or new to video games by how they complained, because the worst complainers never played Tecmo Super Bowl and subsequently had to try to defend Bo Jackson.
If there was a fantasy draft to pick players from Tecmo Super Bowl, Bo Jackson would be the first player picked every time without hesitation. In fact, you would start the draft on the number two pick because you wouldn't even need to wait for the first player to pick Bo Jackson, it would be inevitable.
Maybe it was the video above, or its various iterations scattered across the net, which caused the staff to pick Digital Bo Jackson as a HOF inductee almost unanimously.
Maybe it was from first hand experience - recurring nightmares of diving defenders grasping at air. Or dreams of your friends getting so frustrated at your use of Bo he broke yet another joystick.
No matter the reasoning, whenever you saw Tecmo-Bo running around and through defenses, you just knew you were watching greatness.
Do a google search for Bo Jackson and see what you come up with. First will be a Wikipedia page which mentions Jackson’s Tecmo Super Bowl greatness, the second is a video tribute to Jackson and the third is his quarter long run which Tecmo-Bo didn’t even break a sweat.
Nowadays, with an emulator you too can enjoy the greatness of Tecmo Super Bowl and digital Bo Jackson. For those who have never witnessed his awesome power first hand, you owe it to yourself at least download the video above and watch Bo in all his glory.
For those wondering what the final score of the game was with the game in the video, we may never know. Really it all depended on how much mercy Bo wanted to show his counterparts. From where I am sitting though, I think Bo showed just enough mercy to just make 4 long touchdown runs that day, and I’m sure the Oakland Raider defense broke once. So 28-7 was most definitely the final score.
Perhaps it was the fact Bo Jackson was a two sport star (almost unheard of these days) which caused his almost godlike status on the game console nearest you.
Regardless, Bo Jackson's digital counterpart in Tecmo Super Bowl is the very first ever Sports Video Games Hall of Fame inductee.
