Top 5 Worst "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" Performances

Following the aftermath of Tony Romo's rendition of the famous 7th inning stretch song this past Sunday, we thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the other truly terrible efforts. Here is the Top 5 Worst "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" performances of all time.

5. Eddie Vedder
You would think getting the lead singer of one of the world's most successful rock bands to perform would be a safe bet. Turns out Eddie had been taking advantage of the free drinks in those comfortable Cubs corporate boxes.

4. Jeff Gordon
You could tell this was a bad idea the second Gordon blurted out ... "it is great be here at Wrigley Stadium..."

3. Tony Romo
The newest addition to the group, Romo's butchering earns him a bronze medal.

2. Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy's effort is even bad by his rather low standards. We give him credit though for incorporating the words, "I don't remember what I have to sing..." into the second verse.

1. William Hung
The former American Idol contestant beats out Ozzy by a nose. He was doing well until he asked the crowd to "buy me some penis and cracker jacks..." (approx 10 seconds in).

Note to everybody:

Just because Cubs fans booed them does not mean anything regarding how well they performed the song.

That said, I've seen times where people sung as if there was no music playing for them to keep tempo with. They would start way behind and sing so quickly that they end five seconds before it ends.

exactly right on that first point. Maybe all those bears fans were simply booing the cowboys quaterback?

and this list not having Mike Ditka's rendition? Not a lot of research, I feel.

Ditka's: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hAXTbPCcGNM

Why is Eddie Vedder's performance that bad? Aside from saying "game" instead of "shame", everything else was fine. Am I missing something?

Not at all. I noticed that he faded away from his mic so it went from, "Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks" to "Buy me some peanuts and crack..." but really, that's it.

Again, I've heard much worse. Gordon was bad, and not because he said Wrigley Stadium. Otherwise, Romo was just funny and should have been cheered for his hilarity, and you can't ever be mad at Ozzy.

Yeah - other than the "game" instead of "shame"...what is wrong with Vedder's?

I actually liked Hung's rendition and I don't think he said peenus but it's because he slurs his words so much the "t" was silent.

He actually sang it quite well aside from that miscue.

Well...even if it wasn't intentional...he did say "peenus" which absolutely made the performance. Other than that...he actually took it seriously. Which is probably why it was so funny.

What about Roseanne Barr at a Padres game back in the late 80's or early 90's. Whenever it was. Anyways, that one is way worse then Will Hung.

Wasn't that the National Anthem?

Tony Romo's wasn't that bad. Jeff Gordon's was worst.

Yeah, it was the anthem that she ruined.

Is it just me or wasn't there a whole promo thing about Romo doing a duet with Jessica Simpson from a year or so ago?

Gordon's was by far the worst. He was doomed from the moment he said Wrigley Stadium and it didn't help his cause that he knew about half the words. You would think he would have practiced it a little more. Its not that hard of a song.

Yes, but he wasn't doomed the moment he said "Stadium". I bet there wasn't one Cubs fan that day that could name even one racetrack of his. In fact, I bet there wasn't one Cubs fan that day that could even name another ballpark correctly.

Of course, I'm being sarcastic... but I think the fans are one big reason I hate the Cubs. There's a difference between being a die-hard, and being blinded by that wind.
