Interview with Ray Felton
New Page 2

We have just posted an interview with Raymond Felton, Point Guard for the Charlotte Bobcats.

How has the transition been from college to pro?

I won’t say it’s been easy but it has been comfortable. I had to prepare myself for that life style and that change and prepare myself for that next level. Work hard, eat right and look after all of the little things I new I had to do.

What are the main things you are working on this season to improve your game?

I work on everything. I don’t try to single things out I just try to work on everything. I work on getting quicker and stronger and trying to make everyone better on the team.

What’s the first thing you spent your money on when you were drafted?

I bought my mom and Dad a present. I bought my dad a Chrysler.

Which videogames do you enjoy playing?

I play PS2, PS3 and PSP mostly. I play Tiger, Live, FIFA, MVP and March Madness. I also play some shooters.

When playing for favorite NBA game, what team do you usually play with?

I used to play as Charlotte so my guy could jack up shots but now I play mostly as the Dallas Mavericks.

Are you over or underrated in NBA Live 07?

Actually, I think my rating is pretty good. They got me dunking, shooting the jumper, ball-handling, quick so that pretty much sums up my game.

Have you played March Madness 07 yet?

Yes. I played with Adam (Morrison) and Emeka (Okafor) before we did all these interviews today. EA brought the game over and we played on the 360. It was a lot of fun. The atmosphere is really cool. It felt like a real college game. Adam was playing as Gonzaga but I was up by 10 so I think I’m the best cover athlete at actually playing the game. Adam will say he is but he’s not.

What is you favorite feature in March Madness 07?

I’m a point guard and I like to run the team so I like the Floor General. I like to be in control of the offensive and defensive sets.

March Madness 07 is all about creating home court advantage. What is the toughest place to play in college basketball?

Cameron Indoor, by far. The atmosphere is crazy with the fans jumping all around. At one point when I was playing at Duke it felt like the whole floor was shaking, once the crowd got into it.

Toughest places to play in NBA?

Dallas and Chicago.

How much responsibility, as the point guard, goes into running Roy Williams’ system?

I had a lot of responsibility because as the point guard he put everything into my hands and told me to run this team. He trusted me. He took me in as his own, as one of his sons. The coach believed in me and taught me how to believe in myself.

What are the differences between your practice sessions at UNC and with the Bobcats?

I won’t say there is too much difference. Both are structured and both routine. It is more conditioning in college than the NBA. In the NBA you have to get in shape yourself and in college they get you in shape. They are going to make sure they get you in shape.

Are you good at any other sport besides basketball?

Baseball used to be my best sport. So I like to play baseball video games. I really like that baseball game EA has, MVP and the thing they did with the batting last year.  I played football a little bit and I was good at it but I didn’t really like the contact all that much.

Next year, what goals do you have for yourself as opposed to previous years?

My goals for myself are just to make the team better.

How would you compare the home team fans in the college and pros?

The fans of Charlotte are starting to come along and we are trying to bring that atmosphere back to Charlotte.

Who’s the biggest trash talker from your college days and now in the pros?

Julius Hodge from NC State.

Who is the toughest player you’ve had to defend?

There are so many. You have Steve Nash, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Allen Iverson, and Jason Kidd. The list goes on and on. There are no nights off in the NBA.

What has been the highlight of your basketball career?

There have been so many things that I have accomplished that I’m proud of accomplishing. Being selected an All-American, becoming national player-of-the-year, winning a national championship, getting a scholarship to North Carolina, getting drafted; these have all been important moments in my life. There are so many things; I can’t single one thing out. I am blessed.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Vegas, Myrtle Beach, New York, Miami. I like places where I can go to shop.

Is it a yearly tradition to predict the Bobcats going to the playoffs? J

Hopefully this year. There are still lots of games left so it’s not too late.
