Diamond Dynasty's Silver and Bronze Sleeper Players: Hitters and Fielders

Corey Dickerson, David Peralta and Michael Conforto are three corner outfielders who can crush right-handed pitchers, but don't expect them to help your team in any other way. Their fielding attributes are high enough to avoid errors, but their ratings are also low enough that they won't be making many assists. You'll want to store some substitutes on your bench who can hit left-handed pitching and are capable of playing better defense, but for only 100 stubs a piece, the hitting this trio provides is a tremendous value. I regularly rotate these three right-handed killers in my corner outfield spots, starting the two guys who have the highest Inside Edge boosts on that day.

Once your opponent brings in a left-handed pitcher, it's time to replace your left-handed batters with another cheap power trio: Khris Davis, Mark Trumbo and Colby Rasmus. Their specialty is hitting lefties, but you can leave any of these guys in the game for good because they all hit right-handed pitching pretty reliably. Rasmus and Trumbo have above-average throwing power, but none of these three corner outfielders will be moving very quickly, so you'll need a center fielder with some range to make up for their slowness.

Yasiel Puig's elite arm strength and respectable speed make him my primary pick for a budget center fielder, but Carlos Gomez and Flashback Shin-Soo Choo aren't bad options either. Thanks to Puig's 95 throwing power, runners will be scared to tag up on fly balls and afraid to round third when trying to score from second base. Puig's mediocre hitting ratings require a special approach at the plate. You should wait for a breaking ball that's thrown to his inside cold zone, then try to pull the pitch hard into left field. Using that strategy, I've routinely run out doubles and banged out home runs with the Wild Horse. If you have good timing, his 78 speed is also high enough to consistently steal second base.

I always save two spots on my bench for pinch running experts, and the only way pitchers are able to stop Jarrod Dyson or Eric Young Jr. from reaching third base is if they pitch out and have a created catcher with 99 arm strength. Dyson and Young Jr. are also threats to drag bunt for a single, but since most opponents will put their defense into a bunt shift as soon as these speedsters step into the batter's box, I like sitting my cursor in their low cold zones and using the contact swing button to slap a shallow single into the outfield. Both base thieves can become effective defensive substitutions, if no pinch running is needed, with Eric Young Jr. even having the ability to sub-in at second base.

Steve Pearce and Flashback Dan Uggla won't give you great defense, but both players can be dangerous hitters hidden in the bottom part of your lineup. You won't need to platoon this position because these two second basemen can hit righties and lefties pretty evenly, so consider starting Pearce if his Inside Edge boosts are favorable, or go with Uggla if Pearce's IE matchup is poor. I prefer to use Uggla online whenever possible because people love throwing fastballs to his high inside cold zone, which you can easily drive into deep left field with pull swings.

Unless you have 200,000 stubs sitting in your PSN account, Corey Seager is the top guy to get if you're looking for a shortstop with some offensive ability. He can hit for contact against righties or lefties, and with Inside Edge boosts, he has enough power to pound 400-foot homers against right-handed pitchers. Jung Ho Kang's stats are similar to Seager's, only with slightly better clutch and slightly worse power ratings. Trevor Story is my third option whenever Seager and Kang have bad matchups, and Inside Edge has raised Story's normally abysmal contact ratings high enough to where he won't be striking out so often.

Flashback Jarrod Saltalamacchia simply slams right-handed pitching. People online just can't resist throwing fastballs to his high inside cold zones, which can be easily pulled into the right-field bleachers. But you might want a backup catcher on your bench to face left-handed hurlers since Salty's cold zones grow larger, and his hitting cursor becomes smaller in those situations. I like Welington Castillo as an offensive replacement, though I'll often leave Saltalamacchia in the game to stubbornly face lefties if I'm already ahead on the scoreboard and need his superior defense.

If your pitchers have been struggling to pick off pesky baserunners, you should consider using a left-handed first baseman like Flashback Nick Swisher or Adam Lind because in MLB The Show 16 lefties have noticeably quicker tag animations than righties. Swisher is another pull swing power hitter who benefits from having high inside cold spots, while Lind is better off looking for balls thrown to his low inside cold zones where he can pull a grounder through a gap using his high 90s contact rating.

Lucas Duda and Pedro Alvarez are my favorite bargain first basemen who field right handed, but both of them will probably need a substitute if a left-handed pitcher is put into the game (that's where having Mark Trumbo on your bench comes in handy). Their combination of 70-ish contact and 99 power (with a favorable Inside Edge boost) will destroy right-handed pitching.

I can't finish this article without mentioning Miguel Sano; he's a sneaky start at third base (his secondary position) who hits righties and lefties about the same and always seems to be on a big Inside Edge boost. If you're a pull hitter, you'll be happy to find that people online tend to recklessly challenge Sano high and in, despite his hot spot in that location. Once you knock some high heat into the outfield seats, Sano will probably see a bunch of low breaking balls for the rest of the game, which is fine since his default defensive shift leaves a huge hole right up the middle of the infield.

If Sano's Inside Edge boost is too small to make him worth using that day, Pedro Alvarez can always play third base as a secondary position. And two of the players I often pick for shortstop (Corey Seager and Jung Ho Kang) can also slide over to third, so you should never have trouble finding some absolute bangers to fill your corner infield spots.

Victor Martinez and Corey Seager are the best silver hitters IMO. Cheap too...

Taijuan Walker is another one. He has a great fastball, and his curveball is almost like an eephus at 72 MPH, it's unhittable if located. And, he's relatively cheap at about 2,000 stubs.

Kevin Kiermeyer is another one, beast defensively, with great speed, and a cannon arm, he can hit decently too. Leonys Martin is another in that same mold. Also helps that Martin is the best bunter in the game.

Also, EVERY DD squad needs to have Billy Hamilton on it, his speed is game changing, 1st game with him, he scored from 1st on a wild throw to 1B, catcher picked it up with Hamilton barely to 3B threw to 2nd got the runner there but I sent Hamilton on the throw and he scored what turned out to be the GW run. He also runs down everything in the gaps. You can hit .300 with him on bunts alone lol. Best 750 stubs I've ever spent.

Carlos Corrasco, Carlos Martinez, Carter Capps, Nate Jones, Justin Wilson, Ken Giles, Jake Diekman, Keone Kela, Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Belt, Justin Turner, Trevor Story, Michael Saunders, Rajai Davis, Stephen Piscotty, Mark Trumbo, Trayce Thompson, Jay Bruce and Josh Reddick were all solid players for me.

I have pretty much an entire team of command rewards so I don't need to use "sleeper" players but I still use Carter Capps, Nate Jones, Justin Wilson, and Ken Giles depending on inside edge. Carter Capps is probably the best reliever i've used which is crazy. he might as well be a diamond tbh.
