Players On The Rise

Old guys still matter! Zorilla, Big Papi, Kinsler all got some love this week as veterans still showing out in their 30s. Andrew Miller is the highest overall player impacted on the positive side of things this week, moving up one point to 92.

The Phillies got some notice this week as Aaron Nola became the first Gold player on the Phils. Odubel Herrera was also boosted up to 83 overall and is now on the cusp of going Gold.

A bunch of other young, talented players got boosts as well. That list includes Trayce Thompson, Jackie Bradley Jr., Trevor Story and Nick Castellanos.

Players On The Decline

Joey Votto lost his Diamond status this week. It’s not a shocker to see this happen, it seemed more like a matter of “when” at this point. He has dipped to 90 overall. Bryce Harper is still firmly a Diamond, but his contact ratings were dinged a bit so he fell all the way to a 98 overall.

A bunch of other big names, including Carlos Gonzalez and Nelson Cruz, dropped this week but remain Golds. However, one player who is no longer a Gold is Justin Upton. He fell all the way to Bronze status. This is in part because of his decrease in ratings, but also because he was position swapped to CF.

Two Cardinals also fell from Gold status this week, Wainwright and Holliday. Matt Holliday lost his status entirely due to moving from 1B to LF, but Wainwright lost his based on a decrease in ratings.

Tier Changes

  • Joey Votto went from Diamond to Gold

  • Matt Holliday went from Gold to Silver

  • Adam Wainwright went from Gold to Silver

  • Justin Upton went from Gold to Bronze

  • Jason Grilli went from Silver to Bronze

  • Cory Rasmus went from Silver to Bronze

  • Prince Fielder went from Silver to Bronze

  • Jose Ramirez went from Bronze to Common

Market Changes

There is a “Surprise Performers” pack now on the Marketplace. It includes some new throwback cards, including Rookie Stephen Strasburg, Prime Steve Cishek, Prime Drew Smyly, Postseason Sergio Romo and Legend Mike Scott.

Ratings Boost Prediction Results

Let's see how I did on my predictions this week (and as always come back next Thursday for next week's predictions):

-From the High Probability section I went: (1/4)

That stings. I was right about my “safest” prediction in Jackie Bradley Jr. but whiffed on the other three names. I shall strive to improve.

-From the Moderate Probability section I went: (3/4)

We’ll just say this was my “high probability” list. I missed on Travis Shaw, aka The Mayor of Ding Dong City(!), but hit on the other three names.

-From the Low Probability section I went: (0/5)

Hey, it’s low probability for a reason, I make no promises here.

-Notes from the Long-Term Projections list:

Trevor Story became a Silver this week, and that’s about the ceiling for him I would imagine in terms of tier. I don’t think he will reach Gold status this season. Odubel Herrera was boosted, but I still feel like he’ll eventually get to Gold status. Nick Castellanos was also boosted, but again, I feel he can reach Gold status. Aaron Nola also got some love, and he did make it to Gold status. I really like Nola, but I would imagine Gold tier is his peak for the season. Lastly, Jackie Bradley Jr. got some love, but he still feels like an obvious candidate to become a Gold at some point.

Yadier Molina needs some love. This guy mashes right handed pitching at a .350 clip yet he sits at 74 vs RH pitching and an overall 83. He needs gold status soon hitting .315 and still one of the best catchers in the game. BTW this is coming from a Dodger fan so of course I'm not a big Cards supporter.

As a Cards fan, obviously I agree. Even if I weren't, I'd still agree. They've always been hard on him though. He's not a power guy but he sprays all sides of the field and does it at a high rate, especially for a defensive minded catcher.

I also wish Aldemys Diaz would get the love he deserves. Is he going to hit .380? Not and probably not even close but offensively, he's shown he has the ability to hit for average along with a bit of power. Once he can get his throwing under control, he could be one of the most well rounded shortstops the cards have had in a long time. Hitting is something that can't really be taught. Fielding can. It's a mental thing for him, if he can overcome it, he'll be great.

I think Diaz deserves a bump, but a small one. His scouting reports werent outstanding, and he isnt considered a "bat" prospect. If he's still hitting .330+ come July 1, then bump him deservedly.

A lot of the unproven young hitters it seems are getting the wait and see approach when it comes to their ratings. Diaz and Jackie Bradley are both in similar situations, and they've only seen small bumps.

Vince Velasquez going diamond next update. Right guys!!

Yadier was not good last year hitting, he deserved any downgrades he got then. He's bounced back this year though, no disagreement there.

I seen Velasquez mentioned, and I'm kinda surprised that Nola got bumped to Gold while he (VV) stayed pat. Their numbers are basically equal, so I gotta think VV's time is coming.

# 10 BigOscar @ 05/24/16 09:43 AM
Hes obviously never going to go diamond, but I'd be surprised if Seung Hwan Oh doesn't find himself a silver very soon and maybe even a gold before the season ends. He's been as good as any reliever in baseball so far and that slider is off the charts.

# 11 mrblazeakajb @ 05/25/16 08:53 PM
You guys think Steven Matz is going gold soon? I'd suggest grabbing him now while he's still silver.

Last 7 starts 7-0 49ks

That's gold worthy to me. He's definitely been our #2 since his shaky start to the season.

Thor
Matz
Degrom
Colon
Verrett

Harvey should be our long man

I hope he goes gold! I picked up 6 of him when he was at 300ish!

So Matt Carpenter stays at a 94 overall for almost 2 weeks and can't be a diamond?

What classifies a diamond

# 15 Biizz713 @ 05/26/16 04:36 AM
Strasburg already up to 29k. good thing I picked him up for 13k a while back, wish I would have gotten an extra or two to sell.

I've never noticed but is there an amount of time they always wait to upgrade/downgrade a player after already doing it? Do they ever bump a player in back to back weeks?

Sometimes. when does happen, it is usually a correction of some kind. Although, Justin Upton has been dinged 3 times in the past month

This has been a fun thread. I'm under the impression the initial poster isn't going to be reliable to post this on a weekly basis?

He was pretty reliable last year. I just hope we can get a word from him at some point. If he needs help or wants to do an every other week thing I would be more than happy to switch with him every other week to help since I'm on here every morning when I wake up. That's all I do on the Show is stack my team with players I think will go up all week every week.
