NBA 2K16: Throwback Thursday Card Reviews (2/5/16)

Hey guys, it’s Robby from Two Brothers Gaming again here with some more NBA 2K16 My Team Throwback Thursday card reviews! Every week in NBA 2K16’s My Team mode, there are Throwback Thursday cards released with specific players’ highlight seasons. Each week here on Operation Sports, I’ll be highlighting these players and showing you stats, badges, individual attributes, and everything related to each player. If you pull one of these cards, you’ll know what to do with them! Don’t forget to watch the accompanying video review as well.

Let’s get into it:

2008 Hedo Turkoglu, Orlando Magic – 82 overall

Vintage Turkoglu from the Finals-era Magic teams with Dwight Howard and company is always an appealing prospect, and one that gets overlooked by many people before they get a shot to play with him. There aren’t many 6-10 point forwards in the game, but for a few magical years, Turkoglu’s clutch shooting and playmaking propelled the Magic into contention. He isn’t athletic, he isn’t very good defensively, but his sheer size and outside shooting touch will be enough to cause matchup problems. This doesn’t translate nearly as well to the game, so I don’t see this card holding a ton of value after an initial burst. He can be useful, but only in short spurts until the opposing team exposes him on defense.

2009 OJ Mayo, Memphis Grizzlies -- 79 overall

I like Mayo’s midrange game (90 in both Standing and Moving Shot Mid) and he’s solid enough from the outside to be a threat. Couple that with his great speed and acceleration, and you have a great sixth man for the early seeds. The problem here is that he is a poor defender and doesn’t finish well around the rim. If you can tailor your play style to avoid his weaknesses, Mayo’s strengths are nice enough to warrant rostering him.

2013 OJ Mayo, Dallas Mavericks -- 78 overall

I don’t understand why this card was released in general, much less the same week as 2009 Mayo, but let’s roll with it. This Mayo has a slightly upgraded close shot rating and has improved three point range with decreased midrange ratings. Other than that, you’re looking at almost identical cards.

2009 Samuel Dalembert, Philadelphia 76ers – 78 overall

Dalembert enjoyed one of his best years as a pro in 2009 for the Sixers, and what stands out to me is his 87 Block, 81 Shot Contest, and 85 Offensive and Defensive Rebound ratings. He’s there for defense and rebounding, and if Tyson Chandler’s silver card isn’t available, this isn’t a bad backup.

2011 Ty Lawson – 96 overall

**NOTE-I will have a Gameplay Review of this card up at: http://www.youtube.com/xrobbyh14x/xrobbyh14x if you’d like to see Lawson in action!**

This is a replication of Lawson’s historic night against the Timberwolves, where he made 10 three pointers in a row on his way to a 37-point performance (he sat the fourth quarter). Everyone who loves shooting the three pointer will want to hang onto this card, as Lawson has a nice stroke that’s easy to memorize in-game. This was also when Lawson was at his peak physically and mentally and right on the cusp of an All-Star berth as a speedy do-it-all point guard. The key stats to remember are his 97 Standing Shot Three and 95 Speed to go with 97 Acceleration. He is still undersized, but this outside shooting version of him will still prove formidable to anyone who comes across it!

That’s it for this week. If you’d like to see the players in-game, be on the lookout for more videos, and if you have any questions I can be reached on Twitter @twobrosgaming.
