A week before video game basketball season begins, and a week after TGS means news was kind of light this week. That's not to say there still wasn't news bits to report on though. Blogs seemed to be the weapon of choice, as FIFA 08 and NBA Live 08 had in-depth blogs coming from a few employees working on each title. Also an abundance of video content still showed up, as NBA 2K8 and NBA Live 08 squared off for the most video content of the week. NBA 2K8 appears to have won that honor due to people finding or receiving the game early and posting videos at various sites, including our own. But enough chatter, it's time to get the link party started.
It would be an understatement to say that Jeff Sharma's NBA Live 08 Producer Blog entry was in-depth. It was epic. In the blog he discusses every type of presentation element. So that's everything from camera views to the various audio elements to the various celebrations on the court.
If readers want more NBA Live 08 information or want to figure out what team to run with this year, then check out all all the team and player ratings that have been released to this point. And if readers want to see some of the top players at a a number of positions in action then head to Gamespot and check out some new gameplay clips. If that's STILL not enough Live 08 information, then just stay right here at DSM -- did we mention we have NBA Live 08 and have and will be pumping out Live 08 information all weekend?
At any rate, as mentioned in the intro, there was an absolute ton of videos that released for NBA 2K8 this week. Our friends over at vetzballin have released two full games on their own site here and here, as well as an exlusive DSM Game of the Day here on the DSM forums.
GameTrailers was the other main source of videos -- outside of what can be found on YouTube. There were two interviews on GT this week and a new ultimate fan trailer. The interviews dealt with visual enhancements and new feature and presentation elements.
While watching all those videos, readers can also think about what music they will be rocking out to while playing 2K Sports' basketball sim by looking through the official NBA 2K8 track list.
Now before tackling the FIFA 08 information, a reminder has to go out to anyone still trying to decide which hockey game to purchase this year. On the marketplace this week is an NHL 2K8 demo. So finally owners can figure out for themselves which game suits them best.
Returning now to the FIFA 08 info, the two blogs released from the FIFA camp this week came from Joe Booth...and Joe Booth. He is the lead producer on FIFA 08 and over at IGN he discussed the player ratings system, and at GamesRadar he wrote about how the Be A Pro Mode works.
The UK market also started posting reviews for FIFA 08 this week. CVG and IGN UK posted have both posted reviews, and both hover in the 7 area. FIFA 08 comes out in the States on October 9th. Oh yea, and if FIFA isn't your thing, then don't forget that the Football Manager 2008 demo comes out on September 30th.
A light news week for sure, but it's just the calm before the oncoming storm -- plus Halo 3 released this week, so all other information would have just been swallowed up by Bungie's monster anyway. Next week should be the return of much more news since three basketball games are releasing (NBA 08, NBA Live 08, NBA 2K8) and FIFA 08 and Tony Hawk's Proving Ground will be out the week after next.
