MLB 15 The Show: AL Diamond Dynasty Stock Watch (8-17-15)

Players On The Rise

Manny Machado was given Diamond status this week, a week after many thought he would go Diamond. In general, this update was in many ways the second major update after last week's massive changes. Young players were given lots of love in this update in both the AL and NL (as you'll see in the next article). In addition, physical attributes and defensive attributes were touched for some players. For example, on defense Machado received an upgrade to his ratings, which helped him achieve Diamond status.

In general though, it was the young guys who perhaps got some love now for putting together solid seasons to this point. Trevor May, Preston Tucker, Mike Montgomery, Caleb Joseph, Delino DeShields Jr., Bo Schultz, and Cody Anderson all got serious attention.

The other big-time players who got love included Josh Donaldson, Dellin Betances, Brian Dozier (Gold again), Chris Archer, Jason Kipnis, Corey Kluber, Wade Davis and Chris Davis (though his came via a position swap).

Players On The Decline

Some key Yankees took some hits this week. Alex Rodriguez declined, mostly due to his defensive ratings being downgraded. Tanaka and Garnder were also downgraded. Eric Hosmer was the other player to lose gold status this week.

Getting to the physical attributes, speed ratings of "key" Diamond Dynasty players like Rajai Davis, Terrance Gore, Emilio Bonifacio, Carlos Gomez, Jarrod Dyson and Leonys Martin were all downgraded.

As for other important names, guys like Chris Sale, Felix Hernandez, Koji Uehara, Jose Abreu, Jake McGee and Carlos Gomez were all downgraded.

Market Changes

There was the All I Do Is Win pack over the weekend. Also the market in general has become more expensive overall at the top end as people are getting more into the black market dealing of Stubs.

Ratings Boost Prediction Results

I am holding my predictions breakdown for the next article as this was a sizable update this week I've broken down into AL and NL.

  • Greg Bird (NYY)
  • Audry Perez (BAL)
  • Henry Urrutia (BAL)

ChaseB great breakdown. The only thing I'm wondering about is Brandon Crawford. He is at an 86 now but I'm wondering if it was just his overall that changed? You also mentioned daddy leagues as your source but I'm still seeing the old attributes on their website. I know I could just get on a console but I'm at work and was just wondering if anyone could give me info on Brandon Crawford. Thanks!

I've seen someone else post this multiple times, but Kevin Kiermaier of the Rays is getting hosed defensively in this game. He is one of the best CF in baseball right now (I'm speaking defensively here). His reaction and read on balls is top notch. He makes incredible plays every week. Has a strong and accurate arm (not 90+ level, but 85+ for sure) and has speed for days. As far as speed, base running aggressiveness and stealing, he's also extremely underrated. The OSFM update has his speed at 96 and that is probably about right, but his aggressiveness on the bases is not matched. He's turned at least 7 singles into doubles this year, which may not seem like much, but for a team like Tampa that struggles to get runs that extra base means a lot. His base stealing isn't that great, as he's just beginning to learn how to get good jumps. Sorry for the rant, but he's a lower rated guy who is being overlooked big time for his defensive abilities and speed. If you want to watch an exciting baseball player he's right up there. Rant done.

Yeah Daddy Leagues only updated the Overalls, so I had to manually go in and scope out the ratings changes themselves. I assume they didn't update on DLeagues because of the roster update issue on consoles impacting the ratings in the front end -- which may be where Daddy Leagues auto pulls the actual ratings from rather than within DD.

Anyway the NL update is up so you can find out for yourself about Crawford (spoiler: yes, his power did get bumped!)

The Kiermaier point continues to be solid. His defensive ratings are quite solid I could argue for a CF in Show -- compared against other big names -- but the stealing and other physical attributes are a fair point. This update seemed to target on making a bunch of guys slower rather than faster, unfortunate for Kiermaier.

I wonder how Daddy Leagues taps into these player attributes. I don't think they use video clips like we would try to do.

A while back, I used to take screenshots and OCR'd images (for each player!) but there's no way this can be done weekly, lol.

I'm wondering how Kipnis manages to get a ratings boost while spending the last 2+ weeks on the DL?

Yeah I mean I made my best guess. I think it's clearly automated on some level, otherwise they are way too fast at updates. But if the attributes didn't update, then it makes me think they're auto-pulling them from the front-end roster rather than the one in DD (as DD is the only place the roster update took effect).

Yeah, I mean some of this seemed like a reaction to the major update. Where maybe they weighted the last three years, and then this week added a bit more focus back to how the player is doing this year as there were a bunch of changes to major players who got tweaked last week.

Because he's the best 2nd basemen in the league and should've never been dropped to 85 in the first place lol so obviously some of these updates were correcting the mistakes they did in the big one.

I think it pulls from DD. Last week, there new attribute page updated at 4:30 AM EST. I checked DD on the PS4 and it was updated even though you could not download the new roster until hours later.

He's actually been the best defensive player all season, regardless of position
