MLB 15 The Show: Diamond Dynasty Ratings Boost Predictions (8/9/15)

Another week is wrapping up in Diamond Dynasty as we move into the "winning time" portion of the MLB season. Everybody who swapped teams during the trade deadline has settled in a bit at this point, and the July Topps 50 pack was released over the weekend as well. All that being said, it's time to look ahead once again and try to predict who might be getting a ratings boost on Monday morning.

I'll be breaking the predictions into tiers based on my own confidence level:

Ratings Boost Probability: High

-Jake Arrieta - There are not many pitchers who have done more for their careers this year than Arrieta. I think he's more or less confirmed his status as a top-flight pitcher, and his last update was on 5/4. In the last month, he's got 38 strikeouts over 35 innings pitched to go with a .86 WHIP. He's primed for an update.

-Danny Salazar - I had Salazar in the "medium" category last week, but I feel he's jumped into the "high" category now. He's striking out a batter an inning, and all his peripherals look so much more in line with where they should be now that his home run totals have come down.

-Carlos Correa - I've said enough about Correa at this point. He's a rookie dynamo, and he shouldn't be a Bronze.

-Nelson Cruz - Another player I had in my predictions last week, Nelson Cruz has insane numbers on the year, and even more crazy ones over the last month. He's hitting .385 over the last month to go with 11 home runs. On the season he has a .992 OPS.

Ratings Boost Probability: Moderate

-Carlos Carrasco - Like Salazar, Carrasco's just putting up numbers more what you expect when taking into account the stuff. Nobody has been able to square him up over the last month, and he's had solid control as well, which is why he has a .74 WHIP over his last chunk of starts.

-Adam Eaton - Again, I'm sticking with lots of guys I felt should have gotten a boost last week. Eaton has turned into a very good leadoff man after a rough start to the season, and he's in line to now be treated more like one of the better leadoff hitters via an update.

-Randal Grichuk - When he hasn't been hurt, Grichuk has been going nuclear on the field. He has seven home runs and a .385 average over his last 80-plus at-bats, and he has a .992 OPS on the year.

-Kyle Schwarber - He's got a sample size issue and nowhere to play on defense, but Schwarber can hit. In his first 88 at-bats he has six home runs and a .352 average. Good on you, rook.

-Jung Ho Kang - Again, I talked about Kang last week. He's just criminally underrated I think at this point considering he's a rookie going through a transition to a new culture and league.

Ratings Boost Probability: Low

-David Price - I don't think Price will get a boost because the developers have been stingy (and with good reason) about changing Gold pitchers to Diamonds. Still, he's been awesome since the trade (and obviously before that as well), and in the last 36 innings pitched he has 41 strikeouts.

-Shawn Tolleson - This is another one where I don't think Tolleson changes, but he's been a really good reliever in the back of that Rangers bullpen.

-Lucas Duda - Holy crap, Duda has been showing some pop, especially the past couple weeks. His power is already rather high, but still he's got 11 home runs in the last month.

-Ian Kinsler - Kinsler was updated on 7/20 so I don't think he's going anywhere either, but you call it out if someone hits .421 over a month of the season.

-David Ortiz - He went down to Silver on 6/1, and I don't think Ortiz is going back to Gold. Regardless, the power is still legit, and he's bumped the average back up to .250.

Pujols had one good month.

When it comes to players I know, the ratings seem logical.

Honestly I agree with you. People like Arenado, and Frazier, and Machado all had monster months and have cooled down. McCutchen didn't start off so hot, or Stanton then got hot before all star break. I think these updates are based on whole first half considerations and not just a single month for inflated stats. However, I agree with most stat changes...But how in the world did Sonny Gray go down?!

Poor Carlos Martinez

How is Randal Grichuk still a 71?

I'm just using him as an example, but this happened to a lot of players this update. They got dinged in areas they shouldn't have.
Yeah definitely. all the guys I mentioned are having great seasons however Arenado had that two week span where he jacked like 8 home runs. Take them away and he is still having a great season but not even close to where people think he is. I do find it weird how they never really increase speed or fielding because he deserves an upgrade in those categories but overall he has had a solid season. I question the downgrade but increasing him when he was a monster for like a two week period isn't smart either. Arenado is hitting .250 over the past two weeks with only like two home runs. He is in a cold spell and probably will come out of it but I think he will be somewhere in the middle .280 hitter with 25 home run power. I think that's about 89 overall worthy. So I think he should have been left alone personally.

I am an orioles fan and OMG did they screw this up. Machado with a big big decrease. They moved chris davis to right field from 1b even though he hasn't played there in two weeks and was moved back to 1b in this game last week. Ubaldo our best pitcher took a big decrease while gausman and tillman whose having one of the worst season of his career get upgraded. Gerardo Parra having the best season of his career takes a decrease and is moved to LF even though he has only played RF where this game moved chris davis. Adam Jones decreased even though he is doing just fine and always has. Travis Snyder is on the Orioles Junior Lake who is in AAA dumb. Great update what a joke I may be done with this series until they get some competition. Can someone also please explain to me how Nelson Cruz leads the majors in hrs for over a year, almost two years now, but is no where near the best power hitter in the game. CARLOS GOMEZ got upgraded... What?!?! dude still is faster and better at stealing than altuve

They said they did the rerates they use between games every year. I'm guessing that means instead of basing rating changes on current hot/cold streaks they are taking into account the last few seasons for each player.

If thats the case, i dont know why they bothered to do rating changes all along. And will they still be doing weekly updates? I

He's hitting 270 with 14 HRs and 50+ rbis? What would consider his rating be?

I'd consider that as probably around a 79 overall. Grichuk being 70 is not terrible and he wasn't having a ton of success until these past few weeks. A bump in ratings would have been nice but the ratings increase will be coming hopefully soon.

Can someone explain how Chapman went down to an 88 when Koji Uehura went from an 83 to a 90?

If we are talking closer ratings something that has mystified me all year is K-Rod never getting a ratings boost. He is 26/26 on saves with a 1.37 ERA. That is more saves and a lower ERA than either Chapman or Uehura. I understand he is playing on a garbage team, but the numbers deserve a boost to his ridiculous 81 OVR more than any other closer in the game.

# 35 vc15 @ 08/10/15 01:58 PM
I was hoping they would update Donaldson so he isn't so unbalanced.

CON vs R 69
PWR vs R 68

CON vs L 92
PWR vs L 95

His splits are not that unbalanced in real life.

He's hitting .283/24 HR/65 RBI/.901 OPS against righties. That hardly justifies ratings in the 60s.

Worst update ever ! The Royals and Twins got jobbed

.286 with 14 HR's and 43 RBI's isn't that far off from Kris Bryant's numbers right now, and he's an 84. I just don't think Grichuk should be a 71 more like 79-81. I mean, there's a possibility of him winning Rookie of the Year.

Rookie of the year Lmao. That is going to someone called Matt Duffy, who is still a damn brinze by the way

Carlos Correa's power is still waayyyy too low (56 vs right and 59 vs left) and almost all of the other updates are completely wrong despite a few. I have reached the end of the line with this game. In reality, things like the hybrid rosters (They are great) shouldn't need to exist because the SCEA player ratings should be good and consistent enough on there own. The amount of work users need to put into the game to just make it slightly playable is rediculous. From ratings to player progression to the trade machine to actually gameplay. It is all a joke this year.
