MLB 15 The Show: Diamond Dynasty Ratings Boost Predictions (6/7/15)

Another week is almost wrapped up in Diamond Dynasty, and the biggest thing that happened over the weekend was that the May Topps 50 card pack was released. It didn't impact the marketplace too heavily, which I'm sure made some happy and others not so much. Nevertheless, it's time to look ahead once again and try to predict who might be getting a ratings boost Monday morning.

I'll be breaking the predictions into tiers based on my own confidence level.

Ratings Boost Probability: High

-A.J. Pollock - After a slow start, Pollock has had an unbelievable turnaround. On top of hitting .340 over the last month, he has nine stolen bases and six home runs. Mark Trumbo was just traded as well so that just clears up even more space for Pollock. In other words, Pollock is now bonified in Arizona.

-Billy Burns - Burns has put in work as well over the last month. He's not hitting for as much power as Pollock, but he's got the average and steals to go along with a very low rating right now in The Show.

-Sonny Gray - Gray is young, he's top 10 in just about every pitching category out there and has only received a plus-one boost to this point in the season.

-Gerrit Cole - Everything I said about Gray also applies to Cole. His boost was a more aggressive plus-four, but he's still got room to be improved as he's probably the top pitcher in the NL so far.

-Mark Melancon - Melancon was a mess early in the year, but he's bounced back and should at least get back the ratings points he lost earlier in the year.

-Carlos Martinez - Cardinals players are getting love almost every week, but Martinez probably deserves to join the party as he's dominated over the last month. It also probably helps he was downgraded earlier in the season.

-Dallas Keuchel - Keuchel's peripheral stats are not as impressive as those of Cole and Gray (that groundball rate though!), but he's still doing amazing work this season. He's become a Gold already, but he's still got room to grow based on how he's pitching.

-Brian Dozier - He was in the May Topps 50 pack for top performers; he's top 20 in WAR; and he's just good so it's time to make him a Gold.

-Joc Pederson - Pederson hit some insane moonballs this week and just keeps chugging along.

Ratings Boost Probability: Moderate

-Jhonny Peralta - Peralta was upgraded a couple weeks back, but he's been super solid the last month overall and probably could be boosted further.

-Chris Archer - Archer was forgotten a bit after his amazing start, but his numbers still hold up against just about anybody's to this point in the season.

-Zach Britton - With Britton, I think some keep waiting for a major slip in his performance, but he continues to do great work in the bullpen. He probably deserves to get at least a plus-one boost and go Gold.

-Albert Pujols - Pujols is just hitting bombs right now. I don't know how much growth he has because of who he is already, but if he's going to get a boost it seems like this week might be the time.

-Gregory Polanco - He's still not hitting lefties, but he's destroying righties lately and still stealing bases.

-Trevor Rosenthal - Rosenthal has more or less been pure, concentrated evil as the closer for the Cardinals this season.

-Trevor Bauer - Bauer has continued to remind people he's not dead yet, and he's maybe on the cusp of another upgrade.

Ratings Boost Probability: Low

-Logan Forsythe - Forsythe dipped in ratings last week due to a position change from 2B to 1B, but he's been a nice surprise the last month for the Rays.

-Jason Hammel - Hammel was upgraded a couple weeks back, which is why I put him in this category. Still, he's been nothing but solid for the Cubs.

-Clay Buchholz - His numbers have been outrageous the last month. I'm just not sure if he fits the mold of being young enough anymore to get a boost after a good month of starts.

-Eduardo Rodriguez - Sticking with the Red Sox, I'm not sure if Rodriguez has enough starts yet, but he's certainly been awesome so far.

-John Axford - Axford has revitalized himself as the Rockies closer. But again, with history in mind, I'm not sure how much of a boost he will get.

-Chris Sale - I just don't know how often Diamonds get boosts more than anything. Guys like Goldschmidt I thought deserved upgrades and haven't really gotten them so I'm not sure a Diamond pitcher will get them either. But if a Diamond pitcher is deserving right now it's Chris Sale.

-Dellin Betances - He gave up an earned run this week, but I think he can be forgiven as it was his first all season.

To be fair some of the Royals players in the top all star voting are putting up numbers up there with the highly rated players in The Show. Moustakas and Hosmer for instance are on pace for a 5-6 fWAR seasons. Perez I still do not get why fans are voting for him (Yes I get the Royals bandwagon argument) when you have catchers like Vogt and Russell on the ballot.

Lol at people here thinking Nelson Cruz should be Diamond...

His DH defense won't allow him

Go into the roster editor and see what it would take to get him to 93. It's honestly not a far fetched amount. The Show overall does not equal real life player value. If you get his offensive ratings to where his 2015 splits show he could be a 93. That is the argument. Not that he deserves to be called a diamond quality player, but a diamond quality player in terms of The Show's rating system.

Why should his ratings be up to exactly 2 month 2015 splits? Miguel Cabrera has been doing it for a decade

Joc Pederson is now overall 83!

62,60, 90, 82 power!

Meaning there's no need to sub him out against lefties now!

Well the argument that was used was All Star voting which imo is ridiculous. Now if you want to make the case using actual statistics that the players are putting up that's a completely different story.

No one was arguing he should be rated at what Miggy is. They just said that if Miggy can be a bat first player and be a 99, why can't Cruz be one and be at least a 93. Miggy is rated 99, likely above 99 based on what the devs have said in the past regarding how the overall rating is calculated.

If you look at the ratings increases/decreases this year there have been plenty of players who got significant upgrades when their track record is questionable. Look at Kipnis and how offensively is is basically rated the save vs RHP as Cano. Yet Kipnis put up less than replacement value in 2014 and Cano has been an MVP candidate throughout his career.

The ratings increases lately though have been pretty lackluster and conservative so I don't expect any movement on Cruz or many of the other players everyone and myself as well have been saying could go up. It's why I don't "invest" in cards since the profits aren't guaranteed like other methods of making stub profit.

Apparently, Betances will never be upgraded!

Sold him. He's easy to hit for great players.

Grabbed Tyler Clippard instead

Sonny Gray can't even be rated above Chris archer and Jacob degrom when he's been great his entire career. If you're gonna bump Harper for two months then why can't you do that for other players?
I'm pitching with Archer right now and he feels like NOTHING special. Getting killed right now.

He needs serious pitches upgrades as well.

He feels like a #5.

He's throwing 97/98 out there but for some reason people see it clearly. So annoying.

I think I may just sell him.

How I manage to lose money every Monday trying to buy the guys that I believe are going to be upgraded is beyond me. Every guy I bought Friday-Saturday was not upgraded and they decided to upgrade Clippard and Familia? How is Bryant still a silver, how can Gray be still at 87. Goldschmidt got a well deserved upgrade but there were some strange decisions in there today overall.

I rarely make money on Monday's from the weekend, but I rake it in all week. I am done with this speculation game now, way too easy to make stubs flipping

He's yet to give an earned run for me *knocks on wood*

When I face him I find his slurve hard to hit mixed with his fastball but we'll see. Used to like David Robertson but he couldn't be gone from my bullpen faster

Yeah Betances has gotten me good a lot as well. I feel like it's just that he's so tall, and the Cutter is evil if you can hit both sides of the plate with it. He's definitely owned me.

They need to stop focusing on their favorite teams. I mean the Dodges are always getting upgrades yet, My tigers are overlooked while playing good or bad. Puig hasn't been good since before playoffs last year a day made the cover lol.
Tigers have Jose batting over .350 and his speed is like 63... he's the best defensive SS in baseball 63 speed? He's needs overhaul.

# 36 Djhats @ 06/08/15 05:23 PM
I mean Gose was on fire and still doing okay right now.. 73 overall but the dodgers have a new guy hit a home run and they come in the game silver... Kershaw isn't the best starter anymore yet he's untouched. I could go on forever about hoe OP the Devs Teams are getting special treatment. We have teams on fire right now that have no Dimond and a few gold players.

# 37 baseballsim @ 06/08/15 05:38 PM
If I'm not mistaken, the problem with Archer is that he doesn't have a curve ball so left handers are hard to get out with him.

I'm going to stick with Betances but only use him for 1 inning.

# 38 frasety @ 06/08/15 05:48 PM
While we are being biased to our own teams..

JD should be diamond.
Russell Martin should have way higher throwing accuracy.
Kevin Pillar should have much better defense and speed.
Ryan Goins should have way better defense.
Brett Cecil should be better all around.

I also think Hutch and Smoak are under rated in the game too.

Having said that, it's a lot of work and I think overall the developers have done a great job with the game. The fact we get weekly rerates is pretty solid and you can never please everyone.

I think y'all should just be happy and stop complaining.

Question about collections, won't allow me to start a new thread for some reason. But I'm 1 card away from completing the Reds collection. And the only card I need is Nate adcock. I've tried buying him 3 times now and he will not show up in my cards. Any ideas on what's goin on here?

# 40 ArtificialPain @ 06/08/15 07:27 PM
You don't need Adcock for the collection...He shows in the market, but look in your Card Collection for the Reds and you won't see him there...Same applies for Slowey (Philly), Almonte (Braves), just to name a few...Others can correct me if I'm wrong...

Must be another card you need if you're down to 1 for that collection...
