MLB 15 The Show: Diamond Dynasty Stock Watch (6-1-15)

Players On The Rise

The Giants were the big winners this week as their hitting spree in real life carried over to Brandon Belt, Nori Aoki and Joe Panik all getting solid upgrades. The Cardinals did not do too badly either as Kolten Wong and Michael Wacha both went Gold this week.

Alex Rodriguez going Gold this week is rather wild, but Prince Fielder getting the same treatment was more expected. Justin Upton was the highest-rated player to be boosted this week as he became a 90 overall -- Carlos Gomez dipped to a 90 this week as well but that's in the next section.

The biggest individual winner on the week was Delino DeShields Jr. who received a plus-10 in Overall rating.

Players On The Decline

Robinson Cano has taken a beating the last couple weeks. He lost two points in Overall rating last week and then five more this week. So he's no longer a Diamond and you now need him for the Mariners Collection as he's down to an 88 Overall.

On a team level, Boston and Oakland took some shots. David Ortiz dropped four points to an 82 Overall, which means he's a Silver now. In addition, Hanley Ramirez got a minus-one this week in Overall rating. For Oakland, Ben Zobrist got a position change to left field (previously he was at second base), which means he lost five points in Overall rating and became a Silver. And then Tyler Clippard received a minus-two and became a Silver.

Carlos Gomez is another big name that went down this week, but only one point, and he did receive a power boost from the right side to go with some negatives. Also poor Scooter Gennett lost 11 points in Overall rating this week as he was recently sent to Triple-A. This is only major in that he was one of the best and cheapest options at second base to platoon against righties.

Lastly, Doug Fister went from Gold to Silver this week.

Market Changes

There were no new packs this weekend, which was the first time in a couple weeks that was the case. Therefore prices almost across the board went up, and it was a seller's market. I would presume there will be some sort of "May's Top Performers" pack on Friday, so my general feeling is sell a lot of what you want before that day.

If such a pack were to come out, 50 potential names that could be on that list would include:
  • Bryce Harper
  • Jason Kipnis
  • Paul Goldschmidt
  • Ryan Bryan
  • Prince Fielder
  • Justin Upton
  • Josh Donaldson
  • Todd Frazier
  • Brandon Belt
  • A.J. Pollock
  • Torii Hunter
  • Kris Bryant
  • Brandon Crawford
  • Kolten Wong
  • Brian Dozier
  • Andrew McCutchen
  • Anthony Rizzo
  • Delino DeShields Jr.
  • Nelson Cruz
  • Shin-soo Choo
  • Dee Gordon
  • Evan Gattis
  • Michael Brantley
  • Billy Burns
  • Jhonny Peralta
  • Max Scherzer
  • Drew Storen
  • Felix Hernandez
  • Shelby Miller
  • Jacob deGrom
  • Corey Kluber
  • Ryan Vogelsong
  • Sonny Gray
  • Cole Hamels
  • Zack Greinke
  • Chris Sale
  • A.J. Burnett
  • Dallas Keuchel
  • Madison Bumgarner
  • Mike Bolsinger
  • Dellin Betances
  • Jesse Chavez
  • Erasmo Ramirez
  • Huston Street
  • Aaron Harang
  • Alex Wilson
  • Jason Hammel
  • Michael Wacha
  • Shawn Tolleson
  • John Lackey

Ratings Boost Prediction Results

Let's see how I did on my predictions this week (and as always come back over the weekend for next week's predictions):

-From the High Probability section I went: (5/9)

I felt very confident Justin Upton and Prince Fielder would get boosts and they did. Big names like Josh Donaldson and Paul Goldschmidt are already highly rated and so they stayed put.

-From the Moderate Probability section I went: (5/9)

I'm happy that Nick Martinez finally got a boost, even if it only was a plus-two overall. Burnett, Wacha and deGrom all got boosted and many feel that was overdue at this point. I got burned a bit once again by thinking highly rated players would get boosts here in Gray and Kluber.

-From the Low Probability section I went: (5/10)

As always, picking any correctly in this section is sort of a bonus. I'm most surprised Jake Odorizzi got a boost as I feel like he's really been flying under the radar. I'm not as shocked Arenado and DeShields got upgrades. I put Wong here because I didn't think he would get upgraded quite so soon, but he did in fact go Gold.

New Players

I've had requests to include the newest players in the article so I will add it. There are 10 new players in Diamond Dynasty this week that will impact Collections:

  • Rey Navarro (BAL)
  • Eduardo Rodriguez (BOS)
  • Jacob Lindgren (NYY)
  • Enny Romero (TB)
  • Dixon Machado (DET)
  • Adonis Garcia (ATL)
  • Darrell Ceciliani (NYM)
  • David Goforth (MIL)
  • Austin Barnes (LAD)
  • Brett Bochy (SF)

What makes you think trout will be in the may packs? He was in the april ones and I feel like he had a better april than may, but I am too lazy to check..They had 3 diamonds in the last one so I'm thinking there will be 3 diamonds in this one. I would guess Felix, Goldy, and Miggy, but Felix and Miggy were also in april. Maybe Harper, Goldy, and posey/felix/miggy?

Haha that is my bad. I actually meant to put Harper and not Trout (fixed now). A slip of sorts where I was thinking one GOAT young player over the other GOAT.

Is there a rule they can't duplicate and put some of the same guys in packs again? Assuming they can only have 3 diamonds is also interesting but dunno if they will follow that. If that were the case, the guys you called out all had nice months and make sense.

no, there's no rule. Just speculation on my part. Also not sure about the 3 diamonds thing..just another guess

Josh Hamilton plays 3 games over this past weekend and gets a 7 point boost today?!?

If this is the case Alex Guerrero should be a Diamond!

Hamilton did not get any changes to his ratings in either of these updates it seems (he went down -7 last week). So it was either a position change or something else in the ratings that doesn't change any of his actual tangible ratings that bumped his Overall like it did.

They don't seem to ever want to go past 4+/- overall each week unless they are rated very low to start with (70 or less). Although this week had some extreme changes like Scooter, Zobrist and Cano.

Grichuk going down 2 points is just absurd. I know they switched his primary position to CF but they couldn't knock up his ratings a little? Come on.

Pujols needs to go gold soon. 5 Hrs in the last 7 games. And if A-Rod is gold so should pujols

It's all about the hype. Look at how fast Pineda went gold without a proven track record. Sonny gray has been one of the most dominate pitchers in baseball and he's only been touched once, because he plays on a team that gets no exposure.

Yeah, and Sonny's upgrade was a mere one rating point, and that was a few weeks ago. He should be a diamond, or close to it.
