MLB 15 The Show: Diamond Dynasty's Best Budget Pitchers
Starters

R.A. Dickey (Toronto)
Price = 1,500 Stubs

If you can't afford the 15,000 stubs that it costs to complete the Atlanta Braves collection (and acquire Hall of Fame knuckleballer Phil Niekro), then R.A. Dickey is an excellent alternative, since he and Niekro are the only guys in Diamond Dynasty who can throw a knuckleball. The pitch is one of the toughest to hit online thanks to its unpredictable landing point and the game's latency.

Mat Latos (Miami)
Price = 200 Stubs

Latos has been sub-par this season for the Marlins (4.72 ERA), but his MLB 15: The Show card shouldn't have any trouble leading your Diamond Dynasty team to victory, with an 89-break slider and 85-break curveball, backed by a respectable 91 MPH 2-seamer with 62 break.

A.J. Griffin (Oakland)
Price = 150 Stubs

Griffin's 89 MPH fastball isn't as big an issue as you might expect, since it has a decent difference in speed compared to his changeup (78 MPH with 86 break) and his curveball (68 MPH with 91 break). He also has a slider (57 break) and cutter (54 break), but both of those pitches are pretty weak, unless you manage to raise their confidence over the course of a game.

Carlos Martinez (St. Louis)
Price = 100 Stubs

Fastball pitchers must be able to keep struck balls from sailing over the fences, and Martinez's 85 HR/9 modifier will help him do that while he's blasting 97 MPH heat. Martinez doesn't have tremendous movement on his off-speed stuff (81 MPH curveball with 60 break, and 84 MPH changeup with 50 break), but the speed differential between those two and his fastball should be enough to fool humans opponents. Just don't deploy Carlos against AI teams, as they'll have no trouble dealing with the velocity changes.

C.C. Sabathia (Yankees)
Price = 20 Stubs

Sabathia has been slumping to start 2015, so now's a nice time to buy low in case he returns to All-Star form. Even after his latest ratings deduction, C.C. still has a wide selection of pitch types, 90 break on his slider, 71 break on his sweeping curve, and a serviceable 92 MPH fastball.

Relievers

A.J. Ramos (Miami)
Price = 500 Stubs

Ramos is one of the most well-rounded relievers in the game, hitting 93 MPH on his fastball, while also having a 95-break changeup, 84-break slider, and 87-break curveball. His pitching modifiers are equally impressive, at 95 H/9, 84 HR/9, and 87 K/9. This guy is a versatile, must-have arm in your bullpen.

Tony Watson (Pittsburgh)
Price = 300 Stubs

Another solid, dependable arm who won't cost you too much, Watson has a 94 MPH fastball, 94-break changeup, 88-break sinker, and 84-break slider, His 84 H/9 will help keep people off base, and all of his other pitching modifiers are in the mid-70s.

Ryan Cook (Oakland)
Price = 1 Stub

This three-pitch specialist comes with a 94 MPH fastball, 87-break changeup, and 99-break slider. Cook's 83 HR/9 modifier will help him keep balls in the park while dueling with heavy hitters.

Drew Storen (Washington)
Price = 50 Stubs

A fastball, changeup, and slider are all you really need to succeed online in MLB 15: The Show, and Storen delivers in all three categories, with a 95 MPH heater, 89-break changeup, and 95-break slider. His modifiers aren't as highly rated as Cook's, so use him as a backup plan in case Cook gets blown up.

Antonio Bastardo (Pittsburgh)
Price = 1 Stub

Control will be an issue with Bastardo if you haven't mastered The Show's pulse or meter pitching mechanics, but if you can tame this wild lefty (32 BB/9), he can be a strikeout machine (97 K/9) who will often keep people off the bases even if they make contact with the ball (88 H/9). His 91 MPH fastball isn't overpowering, but his 95-break slider is deadly, and his 80-break changeup will keep batters off-balance.

Brad Boxberger (Tampa Bay)
Price = 100 Stubs

Boxberger's arsenal doesn't contain any impressive pitches, but his 94 H/9 and 99 K/9 modifiers always seem to keep runners off the bases. 78 clutch isn't a bad rating, either, whenever a hitter does find his way to first or second base. Brad is susceptible to the long ball (53 HR/9), and his control will certainly be below-average (53 BB/9), if you're using classic pitching.

Fernando Rodney (Seattle)
Price = 30 Stubs

As with C.C. Sabathia, this if a great time to buy Rodney while he's super cheap. Fernando still has a 99-break changeup and a 96 MPH fastball, which remains a lethal combination, despite the fact that Rodney doesn't have any other pitches.

You'd unfortunately be wrong. It has a direct effect against the PWR attribute of the hitter.

Yes I believe you are correct. I read that this attribute only applies when simming games and there's no simming in DD.
