The 10th Year Anniversary Edition of MLB 15: The Show is only $10 more than the standard edition, yet claims to bring over $130 worth of extra value. This sounds like a deal which is too good to be true, so does it deliver on its promise of adding extra value?
The packaging is fairly standard with a slip cover over a tin case. The case is made to look like wood with the MLB 15 logo "burned" in. The tin case isn't particularly special in my opinion, and doesn't feel "meaty" enough for me. It feels a little flimsy. So in terms of content, your value is not coming from the packaging on this one. The value comes from the digital goods that are included by PSN code including All 30 MLB Team Dynamic Themes, an official MLB 15 Dynamic Theme, 15 Bonus Item packs, and 12,000 stubs.
As someone who was born in the 80s and grew up collecting baseball cards, I think this year's Diamond Dynasty has a chance to be really special. I've really enjoyed opening all of the bonus packs I received from the Anniversary Edition. So the value of this Anniversary Edition boils down to your interest in Diamond Dynasty mode in large part.
The Bonus Item Packs do contain things like sponsorships which can be used in Franchise and RTTS mode, but it's mostly about Diamond Dynasty rewards. I would have liked for the "Steelbook" to have a little more weight or substance to it, but all in all I feel like it's a good value at only $10 more than the standard edition. A little art book showing off 10 years of cover athletes or even a special insert would have been appreciated for those of us who value the physical part of these special editions.
The MLB series has earned a spot in my heart going back to the PS2 days, so spending a little extra to help celebrate the 10th Anniversary of a game that has given me so much joy over most of those 10 years is a fair value to me. If you plan to dive deep into Diamond Dynasty this year you can't go wrong here. If you're hoping for some cool physical collector's items, you might be disappointed in the flimsy tin "Steelbook" and exclusive slip cover artwork being the only differences.
For $10 more than the standard edition however, you won't feel like you didn't get your money's worth, especially if you plan to play a lot of Diamond Dynasty this season.
