Mutant Football League: More Details Emerge

A pre-Alpha build of Mutant Football League appeared last week at Game Connection America and the Game Developers Conference, revealing more details about its ongoing development.

Gamecrate captured some off-screen footage at Game Connection America, which features Michael Mendheim (the game's lead designer) commentating.

Mendheim mentions that the team's target release date has shifted to Q1 2016, sometime before the start of the NFL's Super Bowl.

PlayStation Lifestyle played Mutant Football League at GDC, and recently posted a summary of their experience with the early build, including a gallery of screenshots on page three.

Before heading to the two trade shows, the official MFL website published a brief developer diary, confirming that the project is "far from Alpha build status right now," and that there are only "five very dedicated people working long days and hectic schedules to get all of the game’s features in."

The following features were included in the build that was demoed last week:

  • Core animations are working
  • Two character types (Battlebots and Skeletons)
  • Can select both offensive and defensive plays
  • Can only control the offense right now, but you can run or pass
  • Rudimentary defensive AI
  • Can kick field goals or punts
  • Basic rules are in the game (down & distance, game clock, etc.)

Here’s what the developers will be working on next:

  • Different player sizes
  • Player uniform numbers
  • Zone defense AI
  • Basic blocking mechanics

Mutant Football League is being made in the Unity game engine, and it plans to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC (via STEAM), iOS, and Android.

I rather see Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Football from the Genesis,

I miss the days of the Nintendo indie sports games. Great time for sports video games. A lot of content and competition. Every sport had some spin off game that involved fighting and/or the future. Usually involving robots or humanoids. Literally new sports were invented just to make it into a video game. Great time.

I'll buy this for sure. My Daughter who is now 27 years old was only 7 back when I had the original game. We used to play this all the time and laugh our asses off together. It was great fun. We also enjoyed mutant league hockey.

As someone on the Madden Stinks bandwagon, I'd love to play this one.

#TheMFL will feature parodies of #NFL teams & players, such as the Croakland Invaders & Troll Gonnamaulu

I don't think the #jacksonvillejaguars have been finalized yet, but the name Cracksumskull Jugulars has been proposed.
MFL is going to feature parody NFL teams. I'm loving it! The game is looking pretty good, I think, too. I'm pretty excited for this game.

So looking forward to supporting this game. You know, a real console football game with an actual game to show.
