NBA 2K15: Power Rankings Post-Trade Deadline

As the NBA season continues on past the All-Star break, the playoff race is on every basketball fan’s mind. The real NBA playoff push is sure to be exciting, but what would the NBA 2k15 playoff race look like? Taking a look at each team’s 2k ratings, we can see who would be where in an NBA 2K15 playoff battle.

Eastern Conference

1. Atlanta Hawks, 91.
It’s no surprise that the Hawks are the highest-rated team in the East. Lead by Jeff Teague, who contributes to the 91 overall rating with an 87 overall rating, the Hawks have dominated the Eastern Conference in real life, and can certainly do it on 2K15 as well.

2. Washington Wizards, 89.
DC is rising when it comes to basketball. Their 89 overall rating is helped by John Wall, whose rating matches the team’s.

3. Cleveland Cavaliers, 88.
The Cavaliers being third in their conference on 2K15 is surprisingly realistic. With a roster led by LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, you would expect this team to be cheese. LeBron’s 97 overall rating is a major boost, but the lesser-rated players are still accounted for and the 2K Cavs are very similar in ranking to the real Cavaliers.

4. Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, 86.
All three of these teams come in with evenly-matched ratings, putting them at a tie for 4th place. The Heat have added Goran Dragic, but lost Chris Bosh for the remainder of this season. The Heat are lacking depth, but when it comes to video game basketball the bench is not as important, which is why they are still close to the Bulls and the Raptors at the 4 spot in the East.

5. Detroit Pistons, 82.
The Pistons are another team on the rise in the Eastern conference. Big men Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe have both achieved ratings of over, and that makes them one of the better teams to play as in the East. While the actual Pistons will struggle to get into the playoffs, the NBA 2K version should enjoy the postseason without a doubt.

6. Indiana Pacers, 80.
Indiana is struggling in real life without Paul George, and his presence is sure missed in 2K15, too. While the real-life Pacers await his return, the 2K Pacers can still compete for a lower seed.

7. Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, 78.
These two teams are almost complete opposites in real life, but still have identical ratings. The Bucks have been a surprise this year, as they find themselves right in the middle of the playoff race in the East. The Celtics on the other hand, have been exactly what most people expected. They are not seventh in the Conference like their 2K rating says they should be, but not many people expected them to be anywhere near there. While the 2K15 Celtics can compete for a lower spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the real Celtics are in complete and total re-build mode.

8. Charlotte Hornets, 77.
This Charlotte team, led by 86 overall Al Jefferson, can compete for a low playoff spot in 2K and in the real world.

9. Brooklyn Nets, 76.
The Nets, just like the Hornets, have a fairly accurate rating compared to this season’s actual Nets. They downgraded a bit in the trade market as they lost the 77 overall Kevin Garnett in exchange for Thaddeus Young, who is currently a 75 overall. However, Young will be good for them in the future, and the Nets can compete for a lower playoff spot on the virtual court and the real hardwood.

10. Orlando Magic, 73.
To this point in the season, it appears as though 2K has done rather well rating some of the lower teams in the conference. The Magic are another team that they have done a good job with. Rated at 73, that puts them among the lowest teams in the East. That is exactly where they are in the actual NBA standings as well. They have some players who are developing well, such as Tobias Harris, who has an 81 rating, but the Magic have been in rebuild mode since the loss of Dwight Howard. It wouldn’t be easy for them to make the playoffs this season, neither virtually nor realistically.

11. Philadelphia 76ers, 64.
There’s not much to say about either team. The rating is accurate, as it puts them near the very bottom of the entire league and that’s exactly where they are. The odds of making the playoffs with the 76ers in 2K15 are about the same as the real 76ers making the playoffs: nearly impossible.

12. New York Knicks, 62.
The Knicks being at the bottom of the conference in NBA 2K15 is no surprise. Without Carmelo Anthony for the rest of the season there is no one to lead the team on a postseason run. The Knicks have the worst rating in the league, and that is very accurate compared to the real Knicks.

Western Conference

1. Golden State Warriors, 94.
No surprise here, the Golden State Warriors are the top-rated team on NBA 2K15. The splash brothers are a dream combination when it comes to video game rosters, and they lead the 94 overall Warriors.

2. Memphis Grizzlies, 91.
Memphis is the definition of a hard-working, blue-collar team; their team rating shows that. Not a single player on the team actually has a rating as high as the team overall, as Marc Gasol is the top-rated player at 89. This certainly reflects the real-life Grizzlies very well, and it makes them a top-tier team in 2K.

3. Portland Trail Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, 89.
The reigning NBA Champions and two improving competitors are all even at 3rd in the Western Conference. While the rating may be a bit high for San Antonio compared to where they are in the actual standings, it could still be argued that it is deserved because San Antonio always does well in the postseason. As for Portland and Houston, the 89 overall rating is well-deserved because it puts them very close to where they are in the standings at this point.

4. Dallas Mavericks, 88.
The Mavericks are another team, like the Cavs, that you would almost expect to be like a cheat code due to their talented starting five. 2K has them rated rather fairly, though. The Mavs aren't dominant at a single position, yet every player in the starting five has an overall above 80. This team will be scary to face come playoff time, and they are certainly a team to use in 2K15 if you want a chance to win a championship.

5. Oklahoma City Thunder, 87.
Compared to their performance this season, OKC’s rating is a bit high. However, a completely healthy Thunder team can be better than an 87 overall rating and compete against anyone in the Western Conference. With Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook leading the way, this Thunder team can be dominant in the postseason on NBA 2K.

6. LA Clippers, Sacramento Kings, 85.
While the 85 overall rating is pretty accurate for the Clippers who are led by the 91 overall goint guard Chris Paul, giving the Kings a rating high enough to put them at 6th in the Conference may be a bit of a head scratcher. The team is not exactly in the playoff picture at the moment, but there certainly is talent on the roster. The big man in the middle, DeMarcus Cousins, has an 89 overall rating which is well-deserved. As far as 2K15 goes, the Kings have solid talent which can make them a playoff team. However, their real-life counterparts are not likely to be making the postseason.

7. Phoenix Suns, 84.
Even though the Suns gave up Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas to the trade market, they still do not have all that bad of a roster. They brought on the 84 overall Brandon Knight, who will be teaming up with another fellow former Kentucky player in Eric Bledsoe to make up the new backcourt in Phoenix. Their rating may be a bit too high, as they are not likely to make the playoffs this season after losing Dragic and Thomas. However, in 2K15, Bledsoe can carry you to the playoffs.

8. New Orleans Pelicans, 82.
Everyone knows that the Pelicans have a star in Anthony Davis. He is arguably the best player in the NBA, and has a 94 overall ratings. However, that does not make the Pelicans a playoff team -- yet. For the most part, Davis is leading the Pelicans to wins on his own and there is not enough talent on the rest of the roster to lead New Orleans to a top eight spot in the Western Conference. Even though they are not likely to make the playoffs in real life, the presence of Davis could make it possible for you to lead the Pelicans to the postseason in NBA 2K15.

9. Minnesota Timberwolves, 78.
The Timberwolves rating might be a little bit high, but it isn’t far off from the actual T-Wolves. The addition of Kevin Garnett for the rest of the season will be helpful for Minnesota, but it is not going to make them a playoff team. The Timberwolves are rebuilding team, and making the playoffs is not likely for them in reality or in NBA 2K15.

10. Utah Jazz, 74.
The rating for the Jazz might actually be a little bit too low. Second-to-last is not where the Jazz currently are in the actual Western Conference standings, and it doesn’t look like that’s where they’ll be at the end of the season either. The loss of Enes Kanter will hurt, but it won't ruin the team. While the rating might be too low, it shows the Jazz are not a playoff team and that’s accurate to the actual Jazz.

11. LA Lakers, 68.
The 68 overall rating of the Lakers is pretty accurate. Without Kobe, this team is nothing. This was not a playoff team with Kobe, and it certainly won’t be one without him either. Unless you fire up an injury-free roster, the chances of getting the Lakers to the playoffs in 2K15 are very slim.

I actually think the Wolves rating is spot on. They would have been a .450-.500 team if not for injuries (best that they had a bad season, though).

Not bad except for the Heat and Kings but hey this is 2K. Still, I dont see people switching up too much online from the big four teams (Bulls, Cavs, Thunder, Warriors). Every once in a while I'll see people using the Rockets or Mavs, but for whatever reason its always the big four every time I play someone smh....

With a good user the Thunder are the best team in the game IMO

Length
Shooters
The best scorers in the game at the PG and SF
One of the best defenses in the game

The Miami Heat are the most overrated based on ratings, Dwyane Wade is not as good of a 2k baller as he has been in the past, he's not dunking on anyone, he''s slow, and his jumper is bad and slow. I use him more as a facilitator, especially out of the post. The Heat's depth is not good at all either.

My NBA 2K Power Rankings would be:

1. OKC Thunder (Best All-Around Team)
2. Cleveland Cavaliers (Great Offense + Lebron Penetration + Shooters + Kyrie ISO & Shooting)
3. Memphis Grizzlies (Inside-Out game is almost unstoppable + Great Defense + Depth)
4. Golden State Warriors (Great Shooters + Offense + Depth)
5. Houston Rockets (James Harden + Shooters + Best Center on the game)
6. Chicago Bulls (Great Defense + Shooters + Length + Bangers in the post)
7. SA Spurs (Great passers + Shooters + Defense + Leonard)
8. Portland Trailblazers (Lillard + Aldridge + Shooters)
9. LA Clippers (Pick + Roll + Crawford + Fast Break)
10. Washington Wizards ( John wall + Shooters)

Utah's rating is a joke lol.

Knit-picking a little, but the Pistons wouldn't be 5th if 6 teams are in front of them. Which means...

Phildephia 76'ers just stopped by, and their heart stopped when they saw they were ranked 11th in the east. You owe them a second round draft pick.

Its hard to even play as the knicks... Its even hard to watch them as I missed my 1st game on Sunday, choosing to watch the sopranos on HBOGO, I knew they where on and didn't even care. When does free agency, the draft and next season start?

I run with Washington a lot and also use the Hawks...occasionally I run with my Lakers but its tough to get wins with them...I did beat someone with them the other day though who was using the Warriors...lol...really made my night.

I have a question...maybe not the right place for it...but I use Washington...and can't get Gortat to dunk much...I know his standing still dunk is not rated very high...but even when I use the Warriors with Bogut or Horford with the Hawks i can't get my bigs to dunk after rebounds...do others have this issue...and if not...are you using the stick for shooting/dunks or using the X button....thanks in advance.

Yes I have that same problem, unless my big is all by him self and has plenty of room they are horrible up close. I use the Warriors (always have) and no way Bogut or Speights should be missing all those up close. Think it's something they need to fix.

On topic...glad to see my Warriors are still sitting on top of the rankings! As long as we stay healthy I think we got a great shot!

I play with the Wizards exclusively. Go to tendencies & look at standing dunk. Check for the position average (59 for C's) then look at your player's. Gortat has 35. When your tendencies are that much lower than the pos. average, don't expect Gortat to go up strong to the rim. His tendencies suggest he shouldn't be going up strong for a dunk (driving dunk as well). Basically he need to be wide open to dunk.

Lets start a petition to add Online Ranked Classic team games to NBA 2k16.. I'd love to play as the 84-85 Bulls online against like the 72-73 Lakers among other match ups. There are way more than enough Classic teams to choose from..Who else wants this added besides me??
