Forza Horizon 2: Storm Island DLC Review

It’s been just over two months since the initial release of Forza Horizon 2, by Turn 10 and Playground Games, and while there have been multiple car-packs released, the first DLC has finally released. Storm Island is available.

Whoever came up with the name Storm Island needs a pat on the back, because that is exactly what this new DLC is. It’s going to twist you, it’s going to turn you, and it’s going to wreak havoc on your car and your nerves. While that may sound like the next great tagline, trust us when we say, it is very appropriate.

Storm Island offers 12 challenging championships -- single and multiple race events -- and will test your skills on many levels. Some of the championships will require you to race at night in a pounding rain storm with extremely thin tracks/roads, while others offer extreme elevation changes with multiple obstacles in your path. Either way, bring your A game because it's difficult to crack the top three on the higher difficulties.

Not only does the new DLC offer up a new location to race, it brings with it a new set of vehicles to tackle the new and challenging terrain. Extreme off-road trucks are an upgraded off-road vehicle that is meant to withstand the harshest of climates and surroundings. The expansion also offers new upgrades specific to Storm Island to help one dial in their vehicle of choice. Upgrading your vehicle couldn’t be any easier, as the game points out exactly what you need to take on your next challenge that lie ahead.

While one may look at Storm Island primarily as a single-player experience, the expansion offers up just as much, if not more, in regards to the multiplayer side of things. Your standard free roam, rivals mode, online championship, and bucket-list challenges are all still an option, but you may find a few new twists to some old favorites.

Visually the game is as stunning as ever, and the new weather effects look astonishing in real-time. The game also offers up a decisively more difficult Driveatar experience, as they now race even closer to a real-life counterpart, and will push you just as hard.

Bottom-line is this, if you have Forza Horizon 2, you are going to want to grab this expansion pack. It blends extremely well with the original game, but takes the user to areas that the core game just doesn’t offer. Storm Island comes in at $20, and it’s well worth the price. If you are a VIP member though, you can grab the DLC for half the price at $10.

Be careful to those who buy this... If you never unlocked the car meets after the first championship in Nice do not buy this. You will never be able to access the game (this is happening to me). They are currently looking into the issue.

You are absolutely correct. I can't access it. $20 out the door until they find a fix.

Well, I won a championship at Nice, unlocked the car meet-up and then could access Storm Island. Yea!

Nice, I won a car meet at Nice and still can't unlock it. On the Forza forums they say they are going to have a patch but no one knows when. This is an issue for a lot of people including myself.

Yes, they are "working" on a fix. Who knows when it will come out.

You have to win a championship at Nice.

I have won a championship at Nice after purchasing the DLC at it still does not work. The issue is for some people car meets never unlocked during the game, which also makes Storm Island work.

Posted yesterday by a Turn 10 team member on the Forza forums:

To reiterate what I've posted elsewhere in the forum as well as earlier on in this thread.

We are aware of the issues some of you are having with the Storm Island expansion, namely involving car meets not unlocking thus blocking progression to Storm Island, game crashes related to the Storm Island expansion and no new events appearing after installing Storm Island. We're working on solutions to these problems and as soon as we can update you with further progress we'll be sure to do so. As always we really appreciate your patience and understand your frustrations.

Is this worth the purchase guys? Love the off-road driving, not too good with street racing.

Now that it works, I would say yes. I really enjoy it. Plenty of racing.

Thanks man. Really liking the game right now and I like the Off-road races a lot more.

I joined the OSOS club, but it doesn't seem like anyone is still playing this game.

I'll be playing here shortly.

Purchased this last night and I must say, I'm addicted. Not only the crazy terrain, but the weather effects, vehicles, and the entire presentation of it is pretty bad ***. Sliding around corners trying to drift after hitting some air is pretty awesome.

Can't wait to see what other DLC they have in store for this.

I feel the same way. Love it, I usually don't buy DLC but this is definitely worth the money.

True. I have F5 as well, but never could really get into the game. I guess I'm not a sim type racing fan. This is a very fun game and beating my friends ghosts is like crack. The drivatars are also a very nice feature that carried over. I hated the straight line approach the cpu always took. I love having to worry about and capitalizing on their mistakes.

Love the Drivatars also, feels like I am racing against people instead of CPU1, CPU2, etc.

I liked Forza 5 for a little while but there were just not enough tracks. It is pretty boring doing the same race over and over.

Yeah you can only mirror a course so many time. I like Horizon because you could be on the same road, but then venture off a little for some off-road driving and it makes that particular track so different.
