DTM Experience: Early Impressions

When Swedish game developer Simbin announces the release of a new racing title, fans of the genre make sure to pay attention. The company has developed some of the most acclaimed racing sims for the PC, including the likes of the Race series, GT Legends, and the GTR series.

When they announced their newest release, DTM Experience, a niche German based racing series, it got the PC racing community excited and interested. We have spent some time with their current title for the PC, and there are some components of the title we really like so far, and some that have left us scratching our heads.

What We Like

Driving Model – As typical with Simbin, the driving model is done very well. The cars handle great and the sense of speed is immersive.

Graphics – Those who have played previous Simbin titles, will feel right at home. The cars, tracks, and environments look very nice if you have a computer that is capable of handling it.

Controls – We tested DTM Experience out using both a wireless Xbox controller and standard racing wheel, and we enjoyed both experiences very much. You may have to tweak some settings to your liking, but both options should be viable no matter which patch you decide to travel down.

Racing Options – There are plenty to choose from and the user can create an experience that suits their needs. From race length, to vehicle damage, tyre wear, and opponent strength, one can tweak until they feel comfortable.

What We Didn’t Like

No Multiplayer – They have announced that DTM Experience 14 will have multiplayer, but that doesn’t excuse the omission from this year’s title. We are not sure who thought this would be acceptable, but they were wrong in making that decision.

No Pit Stops – Once again, a decision that just baffles us. How you can create a racing title based off of a true racing license, but omit one of the biggest factors in terms of authenticity and outcome?

Game installation – While this may seem odd, if you choose to purchase DTM Experience you have to install Race Room Experience also through steam. It is done through their portal, which means you have to be connected online at all times in order to have access to the game.

Flag difficulties - We found ourselves being warned or flagged for certain things that were out of our control, and mysterious corner cuts that never happened.

In our limited time with the title so far, we can honestly say that the game offers a lot of fun and challenge in terms of racing the AI, but there are some issues we feel might hold it back. Look for our full review of DTM Experience coming soon!

The game got developed on just 7 months notice, if there will be another dtm experience game itll surely be more polished.

There is and if you buy DTM13, you get full free access to DTM14 which will include multiplayer - You have until March to purchase it and receive that deal.

DTM Experience has proved to be quite the disappointment for me. I tried a demo game to see how it is, and concluded quickly that I would not purchase the complete game.

Agreed Behemoth - In my review I say about the same thing. I enjoyed the driving model very much, but after that there wasn't a lot of enjoyment to be had.
