FIFA Soccer 13 for Xbox 360

FIFA Soccer has been a series which has gone from being a joke amongst simulation sports gamers to a game celebrated amongst our genre's best. It wasn't that long ago that FIFA Soccer was floundering on the previous generation of consoles.

But a new generation brought a new attitude. The instant upgrades FIFA saw in the new generation of consoles brought it to a level of commercial success only shared with Madden in EA Sports lineup.

FIFA Soccer has become EA Sports' cash cow worldwide, selling so many copies to so many people in so many countries -- it's one of the top videogames series on the planet.

The best of the series on this generation has been FIFA Soccer 13. While it's not perfect in every aspect, the sum of the parts within the game make it the best bang for your buck for soccer fans worldwide.

Why it Rocks

FIFA Soccer 13 rocks because it does everything well. On the field, while there are issues the series does have -- the game still is fun and responsive. Off of the field, there are more than enough modes and options to consider. In our review of FIFA Soccer 13, we gave the game an 8.5 for being close to an all-time classic.

The game was successful because it did not try to reinvent the wheel. Building off of a successful effort the prior year, EA Canada opted instead to refine the game into something much more polished all around.

The results were fantastic, with a game which played a very solid game of soccer -- albiet with issues which we are hoping continue to be resolved with future releases.

Should You Buy it Now?

The problem with yearly releases is that it's hard to recommend an older game, even at a discount, over the game just released. FIFA 14 built on several areas and is an all around better game, it isn't however so much better that if you are a more casual fan of the sport and don't care about up to date rosters that you could find plenty of enjoyment at a lower price.

FIFA Soccer 13 is, more than anything else, a game which is meant to be enjoyed in a holistic manner, from the Manager Mode to the on-the-field action.

The Legacy

While the full legacy of the game has yet to be determined, history will likely be quite kind to FIFA Soccer 13. The game improved on areas which needed to be improved but didn't do so much that the game was broken in any major ways.

With so much stuff to do off of the field as well as matchups to play on it...FIFA Soccer 13 will be remembered as one of the many high marks of the series in a generation which brought FIFA onto the screens of millions of consumers' TV sets.
