Oktoberfest Awards: Trials Evolution Best Indie/Arcade Game of Generation

Trials Evolution

As we spend some time over the next few weeks looking back at what was a very entertaining generation of sports games, we take a moment today to pause to recognize one of the best sports gamers ever: Trials Evolution.

Why does it rock so much?

Just one...more...run.

We gave Trials Evolution an 8.5 back when we reviewed it, but back then I believe we didn't fully know the game's full potential. The customization options make the game virtually replayable forever if you dig the gameplay and the challenge of getting better and better times. There were issues within the game, specifically the graphics, so it's not perfect, but Trials is perfectly addicting.

There's not much more you can say about this game which Jayson Young hasn't already given in his re-review of this classic. Simply put, if you are a perfectionist and love to cut half seconds off of your time -- this game will cater to your soul.

Should I try this game with next-gen coming?

If you are simply waiting for next-gen titles and if you are holding out until next-gen to buy the AAA titles, then yes -- try this game and try it now.

Just be forewarned, the surgeon general was about to put a warning on the pre-download screen of this game warning of its addictive effects and potential to ruin ones desire to socialize with the outside world. That plan was nixed when everyone in Government realized there were even less important things to do, but you've been forewarned.

Final Thoughts

Trials Evolution or its little brother Trials HD are excellent games which will distract you from the world for awhile. The limitless tracks plus the addictive gameplay make this a winner not just for now, but for all time. Seriously, play it before the new next-gen Trials drops.

Honorable Mentions: NFL Blitz, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade, MLB Bobblehead Pros, Tecmo Bowl Throwback

I had a demo of Trials HD that came installed on my Xbox that I had never bothered to try. After I read this I went and gave it a spin...wow...fun game! Although I could see myself breaking a controller on the harder courses. And of course, torturing the rider with spectacular crashes is good comic relief. Thanks for posting this.
