OS Mock Draft With Madden NFL 13 Ratings Projections

The NFL Draft is something that we all get excited over, unless you're a Saints fan. The past few months have given us countless mock drafts and scenarios our favorite teams are looking into. And finally, tomorrow, the draft will kick off and give a new generation of players a chance to prove they belong. But what if teams were drafting for their Madden franchise, and not the real-life counterparts?

Well, Dustin and TD thought about it and decided to make a mock draft of their own by taking a look at how the draft might play out if it were done in Madden 13. This means we aren't picking who we think teams are going to pick, but who they should if the NFL was like Madden NFL 13 and favored the same types of attributes.

Ladies and gentleman, we present to you the Top 13 of Madden 13 Mock Draft:

1. Colts – Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
Three weeks and about three flirtatious Jim Irsay tweets ago, it seemed somewhat plausible that the Colts were actually considering taking RG3 with the 1st overall pick. Of course we now know that won’t be happening, but if it were up to Madden gamers, it should. Even though Andrew Luck is arguably the better overall quarterback prospect right now, the two areas in which RG3 is superior to Luck (speed and arm strength) should make him a more prized asset in Madden 13 and quite frankly just more fun to play with.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 88
Throw power: 96
Throw on the run: 87

2. Redskins – Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
Luck may not be as Madden friendly as RG3, but he will still give Washington a quarterback that can actually throw the ball. Ever since Michael Vick has been introduced in Madden, mobile quarterbacks have become the favorite while pocket-passers like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning took a back seat. However, for those who enjoy staying in the pocket, Luck will be a very solid option. He lacks arm strength, but his A potential will easily fix that in the near future.

Key ratings predictions
Mid-range Accuracy: 91
Awareness: 85
Play action: 87

3. Vikings – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College
Surprise surprise, going defense here. Kuechly looks like a very good and fast linebacker who reminds me a bit of Brian Urlacher. Not only did he run the third-fastest 40-time for linebackers at the combine (4.58), but he looks like he has great pass coverage skills which should come in handy when defending those tight end post and out routes in Madden 13.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 82
Man coverage: 75
Zone coverage: 75

4. Browns – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma State
This is the easiest pick in the Madden draft outside RG3. Blackmon will give the Browns the playmaker they need, and help Colt McCoy show what he's got. Since McCoy's most dangerous weapon so far being Greg Little, Blackmon will come in and make the Browns (with a good Madden player) relevant again.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 95
Spectacular Catch: 89
Route running: 79

5. Buccaneers – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Touted as possibly the “next Larry Fitzgerald”, some believe Michael Floyd might be the best receiver prospect in this draft. The Bucs already have a great Madden quarterback in Josh Freeman so another weapon like Floyd who has a No. 1 wide receiver skill set to go alongside Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow should make the Bucs a more sought-after team in Madden 13.

Key ratings predictions
Catch: 90
Route running: 85
Speed: 85

6. Rams – Morris Caliborne, CB, LSU
St. Louis gets the freidnly shaft as the top two WRs went back-to-back right before them. However, even with the new addition of Cortland Finnegan, the secondary is still a very weak unit. The Rams could look at pass rush, but when they can solidify the corner position for at least five years, you don't pass that up.

Key ratings predictions
Man coverage: 90
Zone coverage: 86
Speed: 89

7. Jaguars – Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
Tim Tebow isn’t walking through that door so why not go with another quarterback who’s also athletically capable of playing another position? A former wide receiver, the 6’4” Tannehill should at the very least have the wheels to make playing with the Jaguars somewhat exciting in Madden 13. Anything more than that, I can’t promise. But hey, it’s not like Blaine Gabbert has much promise either.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 81
Throw power:90

8. Dolphins – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
Miami fans should be ecstatic with this pick. Richardson and Reggie Bush will be a fantastic one-two punch in Madden. Bush will me what he's best at: a situational back and decoy. Richardson, who is being touted as the next Adrian Peterson, will likely be an every down back. Plus, with the new half back joining Miami, you have a nice trade chip in Daniel Thomas.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 86
Trucking:90
Carry: 88

9. Panthers – Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
As far as Madden goes, the Panthers offense is set. Wide receivers and tight ends? Check. Running backs? Check. Potentially the most-fun-to-play-with quarterback and (for my money) Mr. Madden 13? Check.
What super Cam and the rest of the Panthers could use now is some pass defense. Janoris Jenkins, known as a true and fluid cover corner who’s only real question marks come off the field (already a father of four, word to Cromartie) should fill a much needed void in Carolina.

Key ratings predictions
Man coverage: 85
Catching: 75
Speed: 88

10. Bills – Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
After a swing and miss at Robert Meachem, the Bills are still looking for a wideout opposite of Stevie Johnson. Wright would be the perfect fit in Buffalo's Madden offense, especially with Johnson, Fitzpatrick and Freddie Taylor. Wright may not put up the huge numbers you want him to since he's a rookie, but the field would open wide up for the other offensive weapons.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 91
Catching: 71
Route running: 75

11. Chiefs – Whitney Mercilus, DE, Illinois
Being third from last in sacks last season can not bode well for the Chiefs’ defensive line's pass-rush ratings in Madden 13. Whitney Mercilus, defensive end out of Illinois, reminds some of Aldon Smith and others of Jason Pierre-Paul. While I can’t say with absolute certainty which prediction is right, I do know this – Mercilus led the nation with 16.0 sacks in 2011 and has the most appropriate name for a potential “QB Killa” than the other two aforementioned pass rushers.

Key ratings predictions
Power move: 86
Finesse move: 82
Speed: 80

12. Seahawks – LaMichael James, RB, Oregon
Combining James with Beast Mode Lynch will form arguably the best RB combo in Madden. With the addition of Matt Flynn, and the average offensive line, the 'Hawks will need someone in the back field with good hands who can run screens and flats. James fits the mold perfectly. In addition, his speed and elusiveness will keep Lynch fresh for the game rather than him pounding it out all the time. Perfect player for his perfect system.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 96
Catching: 85
Carry: 74

13. Cardinals – Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
Honestly, was hoping LaMichael James fell here. A speedster and playmaker of his stature out of the backfield would make playing with Kevin Kolb a not-so-boring experience in Madden 13. But with him off the board, I’m going with Stephen Hill, the wide receiver out of a GA Tech who could very well turn out to be a Madden 13 gem wherever he goes. With his size and the type of speed he showed off at the combine (4.36 40-yard dash), Hill coupled with Larry Fitzgerald could make for a very scary wide receiver corp in the Desert.

Key ratings predictions
Speed: 95
Spectacular catch: 80

Nice writeup, now compare these rookies to the super human Madden generated rookies and you will notice a difference in talent. I hope Floyd's speed will be higher than a 85, his 40 was faster than expected.

this is clearly madden and they clearly dont base madden ratings off of REAL LIFE even though its suppose to be "AUTHENTIC". Its funny to hear people say Andrew Luck doesnt have a strong arm. The fact that Blackmon is in the 90s as far as speed is just a joke. Blackmon is compared to Anquan Boldin and thats one thing Boldin is not… FAST. Floyd is perfect. Just because you have a fast 40 time in shorts and a t shirt doesnt mean you play fast.

# 3 prototype561 @ 04/25/12 03:26 PM
I was thinking the samething, there is no way that Blackmon speed is 96, maybe 86-89.

# 4 Landonio @ 04/25/12 04:28 PM
Trent #8...with 86 speed...

O_o

LMAO @ the though of the Seahawks signing a rookie RB to a major contract, in addition to the contract Marshawn Lynch just signed.

Nah, if anything, the Seahawks might trade back, if Luke Keuchly isn't there. To be honest, this doesn't seem like a mock draft at all. You're supposed to be moking an actual draft, not just listing players...

Jwill

Did you read the basis of the mock? It was if they were drafting players based off Madden ratings, gameplay, utilization, etc.

# 7 Pandetta @ 04/25/12 06:29 PM
These ratings are so incredibly inaccurate that it is impossible to take the rest of the mock seriously.

# 8 Pandetta @ 04/25/12 06:30 PM
The individual player ratings are so incredibly inaccurate that it is impossible to enjoy the article/mock.

# 9 Ike04 @ 04/25/12 07:01 PM
um... the colts already told andrew luck he was going to be 1st pick

Mock draft guys! Wow, ease up. I think that many of the picks make a lot of sense especially with the rationale right ups that Dustin and TD analyzed

These all just seem like eyeball ratings. And not of, or based on any scale(which is how I sometimes feel about the way Donny has done ratings, but that's for another discussion). Robert Griffin would probably outrun Justin Blackmon in a footrace, but he's an 86 because that sounds good for a QB.

Luck is going #1. Colts GM has already made this official. https://twitter.com/#!/AdamSchefter/...38004546809856

The problem is that for some players they look like eyeball ratings made by people who haven't even seen them play. The Speed ratings just don't make sense about the board, Richardson at 86 sounds like someone going "Oh yes he's the next RB from Bama, so he'll be a slow power back like Ingram right?", Richardson plays massively faster than Ingram. That's why he's such a great prospect, he got Speed AND Power.

this is the problem with madden ratings....a player who has never played in the nfl before has an awareness rating of 85.....yea get out of town!! that means over a 15 year career he can only improve awareness 14 points???

madden ratings need to realize that players are physically gifted but dont always know the ins and outs of the nfl ....

awareness prior to week 1 of the nfl season for any madden rookie should never be higher than 70....

you can still give them solid physical attributes...

but lowering the awareness really makes them play like rookies and also helps keep the ratings spread out.

smh!!

# 14 schnaidt1 @ 04/26/12 06:43 PM
wow looking over the rest of this list....all these players are rated waaaay too high.

we gotta take a stand at rookies being rated soo high!! this takes away the challenge of franchise mode!!!!!!!

ugh!!

make some trades. sign some players. sim 1 year....do your draft. go through free agency...and you can make the colts a superbowl contender....

all because ratings and progression ratings are way to high and realistic!! this is the 1 thing that could really keep me from considering madden 13

Yes? Linemen aren't exactly high value in Madden?

Yes, but this was a mock draft as in "What player would you pick for your team in Madden?" so it just doesn't make sense to use a first round pick on an offensive lineman, since it simply is the least important position on the whole field in Madden. I don't like it, either, but that doesn't change anything about the facts that currently it is like it is.

umm, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong..... do you see a pattern here?
