Powerups That Should've Been in NFL Blitz

EA Sports' new downloadable NFL Blitz lacks the excitement and over-the-top persona of the arcade original. While late hits, excessive celebrations and taunts couldn't be added due to NFL rules, one way Blitz's developers could have gotten around the NFL's sanctions is by spicing up the game's dull powerups. Not all of the suggested powerups are NFL-approved, but still, it's fun to think up ways to bring the glitz back to Blitz.

AFC

New England Patriots - You are able to watch the other team select their plays and their audibles.

New York Jets - Darrelle Revis can place a small island of quicksand anywhere on the field. All players on the other team who run through the quicksand are slowed and trapped on the island.

Buffalo Bills - Ryan Fitzpatrick's beard scares off all defenders, making him untackleable when behind the line of scrimmage.

Miami Dolphins - Dan Marino is subbed in at quarterback. He has 1 speed, but is rated a 5 in all other categories.

Baltimore Ravens - Ray Lewis picks up the first down marker and moves it back 20 yards.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Troy Polamalu squirts shampoo in the opposing quarterback's eyes. The quarterback can no longer see his passing icons or receiving target.

Cleveland Browns - When activated, the other team's ball carrier transforms into Earnest Byner and immediately fumbles the ball.

Cincinnati Bengals - Stadium security swarm the field, tackling the opposing team's best player and locking him in a jail cell on the sideline.

Indianapolis Colts - The other team's quarterback suffers an injury, forcing in the backup.

Houston Texans - Andre Johnson gets into a fist-fight with the opposing team's top cornerback, removing the defender from the game.

Tennessee Titans - Chris Johnson stuffs money down the opposing team's uniforms, reducing all of their players' speed ratings by 2.

Jacksonville Jaguars - Maurice Jones-Drew transforms into a large teal bowling ball, increasing all of his ratings to 5.

Denver Broncos - Tim Tebow drops to one knee and prays. All of the Broncos' player ratings increase by 2.

San Diego Chargers - Vincent Jackson gives his cell phone to other team's top player. The player is shown talking to his agent on the sideline and is "held out" of play.

Oakland Raiders - All players on the opposing team are given a speed rating of 5 and a rating of 1 in all other categories.

Kansas City Chiefs - The other team's top-rated player takes arrow to the knee, forcing in a backup.

NFC

New York Giants - When activated, the opposing quarterback curls up into the fetal position, allowing for an easy sack.

Dallas Cowboys - The opposing team is inflected with "Romoitis," increasing the likelihood of a fumble.

Washington Redskins - The other team's owner walks onto the field, handing each of his players a check for $100 million. All of their players' ratings decrease by 2.

Philadelphia Eagles - Fans start booing loudly, hurling beer bottles, popcorn and other objects at the screen, making it difficult to see.

Green Bay Packers - Aaron Rodgers' championship belt can be strapped onto any player on the field, increasing all of his ratings to 5.

Chicago Bears - An escaped bear from a nearby zoo charges the field and mauls the other team's highest-rated player, removing him from the game.

Minnesota Vikings - Jared Allen pulls out a hunting knife from his sock and stabs the opposing quarterback in the arm. The quarterback can now only pass the ball when rolling out to the side of his remaining good arm.

Detroit Lions - Calvin Johnson transforms into a huge blue robot, increasing all of his ratings to 5.

Atlanta Falcons - The other team cannot punt or kick a field goal, and is forced to go for all fourth downs.

New Orleans Saints - A construction crew appears on screen and quickly builds a dome around the stadium. All of New Orleans' player ratings increase by 2.

Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton runs to the sideline and brings back several cups of "Cammy Cam Juice" for his teammates. All of the Panthers' player ratings increase by 2.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - LeGarrette Blount runs up into the stands and punches a camera man in the face. The camera is now off-center and no longer follows the play, making it difficult to see.

Seattle Seahawks - A fan runs onto the field, giving the Seahawks an extra controllable player.

San Francisco 49ers - Frank Gore grows a horn on top of his helmet, making his shoulder charge move super effective.

St. Louis Rams - Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk and Torry Holt are subbed in at quarterback, running back and wide receiver, respectively.

Arizona Cardinals - A massive sombrero is suspended directly above the field, darkening the screen and making it difficult to see.

Excellent work! These definitely would have made the game more fun, much to the chagrin of the evil Goodell.

My fave 3: Browns, Bears, and Falcons.
