Rugby Challenge Interview
Operation Sports: Is there a complete franchise mode? For instance, do players age and retire? Are new rookies added each year? Are there transfers?

Answer: Career mode features 13 seasons where you can take your favorite club or international teams or (even both) through their respective competitions side by side. At the start of each season, you can draft from a list of rookies or pros to create your own personalized team.

OS: Will the game feature sliders to control various aspect of the game and AI?

Answer: In Rugby Challenge, you can customise 16 player attributes, six team attributes and 33 different team tactics. Individual attributes and tactics settings allow each team to play a unique play style just like they do in real life, for example whether they have more forwards play or territory kicking game.

OS: What weather conditions will be in the game?

Answer: Fine, overcast or rain conditions all appear. Ball handling is affected if it’s raining.

OS: Do teams play to their strengths or styles, especially when controlled by AI?

Answer: In Rugby Challenge, we have set out to give every team its own personality. We accomplish this by being able to adjust each team's onfield play style. For example, New Zealand will play a more heavy contact forwards game, where the Wallabies will kick the ball a bit more and play for territory gain over taking contact. These attributes or "tactics" are editable by the gamer.

OS: Are there injuries?

Answer: Yes, injuries can occur during a match if a hard tackle is too much for a player.

OS: Can you explain team tactics?

Answer: Tactics are the settings that specify a particular team's overall play style. Tactics can be adjusted by zones -- defense, mid and attack zone. For example, you can adjust whether a team’s forwards and backs drive, take contact or hand the ball off. You can also set what your team prefers in the line-outs, scrums or mauls (such as pass, pick and go, or take the ball to ground). A team’s kicking strategy can be set here also, such as short, long, left, right or even a more territory gain kicking style.

OS: Can you list all of the available modes, and detail the online options?

Answer: Single Match, Training/Tutorials, Competition Mode, Career Mode, Play Online 4v4 (Quick Match, Private Match and Leaderboards), Customize Player, Customize Teams and Customize Competion.

OS: Who are the top five rated players in the game?

Answer: Jonah Lomu, Brian O’Driscoll, Daniel Carter, Mils Muliaina and Richie McCaw.

OS: Can you explain how rucks and mauls will be handled?

Answer: When a ruck is formed, you must balance how many players you quick bind or heavy bind to a ruck whilst also being careful not to over commit too many players to a ruck leaving your defensive line open or fatiguing your players too much. A maul is formed from a contested tackle. These tackles can occur when two players engage in a tackle but have equal dominance; this starts as a contest to bring a player to the ground by tapping the "drive" button. If this contest is equal, you can quick-bind players to form a rolling maul to gain ground or use the ball.

Having failed to be impressed with the demo for RWC 2011 I'm hoping that Rugby Challenge will deliver. Just a shame there will be no demo for this game.

I will echo those sentiments. The Rugby World Cup demo felt like a marginal update to the PS2 game.

I'm expecting Rugby Challenge to put on a much better showing.

RWC demo was the 1st ever rugby game I played. From my point of view it was ok but I really hope this one is gonna be way much better.
