NCAA Football TeamBuilder Wishlist

In my opinion, TeamBuilder is the finest feature in NCAA Football 11. However, there is a lot of untapped potential that could make it the best feature in any sports game on the market. So I just want to highlight five personal additions that I believe would improve the mode.

Uploadable Fonts

A reason I like TeamBuilder is because you have so many fancy customization options at your disposal to create a unique team. However, there is just one thing that ruins the uniqueness of the team. Each team has three fonts for their numbers, word marks and end zones. Those fonts are College, Italic and Standard.

In today's college football world, almost every team has a unique font that shows off its respective school. It would be great if you could upload a font from a free fonts Web site that would match the style of the team you are creating. Imagine if you could stick Comic Sans on a superhero-styled team, or use a particular font for older football teams to create completely era-realistic jerseys. I would give bonus points to the developers if they could put the font as the player name on the back as well.

More Image Slots/Equipment Logos

I want to demonstrate a problem that I have found myself running into in the past. Say you have an animal logo that faces a direction, and your helmet logo has that logo with some text. You simply cannot flip the logo on the helmet because that would cause the text to be unreadable. So either you have to use both slots on your team for your helmets, or you have to abandon your helmet idea and just go with the plain logo.

I would much rather have enough slots so that I could have that helmet, along with end zones (some teams do not have just text in there), and perhaps even conference and equipment logos. It would be terrific if EA simply put in the equipment logos so that we could just pick which logo to put on there and have it available, but more slots would help in this regard.

Rivalries

When you decide to insert a TeamBuilder team into your dynasty, your team absorbs the rivalries of the team you replaced. While that is fine and all, I would much rather be able to determine my own rivalries. If I create Radford University, I want to make sure my rivals are the Hokies from Virginia Tech and so on.

Stadium Builder/More Generic Stadiums

Most people, when they create teams, will not worry too much about stadiums. They will probably pick one and be done with it. However, if you pick poorly, you will probably notice that your predecessor's legacy still lives on in a way. Maybe on the scoreboard, you notice Oklahoma instead of Idaho A&M, for example. This can ruin immersion.

It would be much better if there was a way to create your own unique stadium for your team to play in. If a stadium builder is not in the cards, at least model new generic stadiums so that there is more of a visual variety.

TeamBuilder Teams as FCS

This is a major one to me. Instead of playing FCS East, it would be more realistic to play Appalachian State. For one, Appalachian State is probably much better than FCS East. We could do this in the last generation NCAA games, but of course, we had the FCS teams on the disk. My hope in the future is that every team that plays an FCS team can have that team swapped out for a real FCS team that is better than the generic teams in the game.

In-Dynasty Edits of Jerseys

Isn't it annoying getting 20 years into a dynasty only to notice that all the teams are still wearing the same jerseys they were rocking in 2010 -- not to mention playing in the same stadiums as well? I think it would be pretty darn awesome to be able to edit these things so that we could upgrade and change visual identities. Plus, if you look at a team like Oregon, that squad will be outdated at the beginning of next year. I do not think this should be limited to TeamBuilder teams, either. It should be available for all teams, and it should be a stripped down TeamBuilder site that facilitates this.

Do you have any suggestions I did not come up with? Share them in the comments below.

I don't know for sure...but... I created a team and put them in the MAC and the MAC logo automatically showed up on the field, at the same yardline as my sideline logo, and on the opposite side.

Or maybe I'm mistaken...maybe I didn't pick a sideline logo, and then the MAC logo showed up in that spot... either way, without using it as a logo slot or picking it as a logo, the MAC logo appeared on my field.
That may be because the MAC, SEC, ACC, Big XII, Big East, etc. already place conference logos on the field. Not sure if that's something the Big Ten does, yet.

Speaking of that, I wonder if they will or even can update to the new PAC 10 logo, which I think is "required" to be on the field.

I do wonder though... if you make a teambuilder school and put it in the SEC, does the game use your teambuilder's primary and secondary colors to determine the color of the SEC logo on the field (as all 12 SEC schools use their school colors to paint the logo, as far as I know), or is it done in the generic yellow/blue.

This would potentially mean that if you picked the same primary and secondary colors, you'd have two big circles on your field...

I don't know if this was said by anyone else in the comments as I have not read them all, but it would be nice for TeamBuilder to provide a "layers" option for the jersey and pant customization, maybe even the helmet. Instead of just choosing "Jersey Style 113" for your teams jersey, you could be able to make that layer one, having say the stripes right under the collar like Boise St. and then still be able to add "Jersey Style 4" as the second layer having the steel plated shoulders like Oregon from 2 years ago. This layer option would allow people to combine stripe patterns and make more customized jerseys than already available while still keeping the simplicity of making a jersey that TeamBuilder already has.

Ooooh, I like that idea.

I didn't utilize the feature at all last year because of the inability to import more than 12 teams into dynasty mode.

I did create two Legendary teams this year (SWAC All-Time & Walter Camp All-Century Team) one of which (SWAC ALL-TIME) is still the highest downloaded Classic team on TB for 2010.......

I'm not really happy with TB because i feel why should i spend countless hours creating 1000's of players and you can't even import all of them into a Dynasty mode to play a All-Time Dynasty.

It's a waiste of time because i thought the purpose of TB was to create teams and take them into dynasty and 12 out of 80+ possible teams I would create is pontless

I spend massive hours researching and rating players as realistic as possible probably one of the best you'll ever find on the net but I can't see myself sharing those teams on TB because of it's restrictions

Lack of Equipment editing and player edits in appearance needs to be added next year along with the ability to IMPORT up to atleast 80 teams.....Like i said I do some great work with these types of rosters and teams but I can't share them on TB because of those factors alone.

Look i don't know how old many of you are(im 37) but i myself and many others have been asking for these custom options for years(since Bill Walsh College Football(dang i was 21 time flies) and all we seem to get is bit by bit progress and that stupid mascot mashup(100% Crap)im thinking of writing Collegiate Images (they handle the logos licensing and marketing services) go here

http://www.collegiateimages.com/index.php?module=Newser&func=display&topicnum=1&nid=9

& The Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC)

go here

http://www.clc.com/clcweb/publishing.nsf/Content/contact+us.html

I'm think of writing these two and asking that they find another company to make NCAA Football Like Sony ,Namco,Capcom or Sega im sure any of the Four can make a way better cross platform game then those non cooperative uncreative clowns at easports.we deserve a company that respect their paying customers and takes pride in their brand because EA does not. As a mof fact they should not have the privilege to make any NCAA sport games ever again.

I agree with almost everything here.

A couple things I would like to add:

* Global equipment editing... for instance, if I want my entire team to wear a specific brand helmet let me set that. If I want my team to all wear high socks, let me set that.

Every year in team builder the system reset all socks to low... so I have to go back in and reset 70 players worth of socks which is just dumb and time consuming.

* Duplicate Numbers (it allows you to START with it from the computer, but you can't continue that on the console. Seems like a simple fix)

* Team export / exhibitions: I am four years into a really cool dynasty, but can work on anything except through the very tedious and frustating 'practice' within the dynasty. Let me export my teambuilder team now so I can practice with it

* Ability to edit uniforms in the offseason: Teambuilder dynasty... have a couple teams with absolutely dreadful unis. Guys know this and have changed it on the teambuilder site, but can't do anything about it in the current dynasty. Allow once per offseason where a team can upload uniform modifications... or even... allow there to be a 'unlock' where you can get an extra alternate design, or unlock extra equipment, etc...

I agree, the only thing I'd do is allow the placement. When they were in there, the pride stickers always went on the back. I'd like to see the creater be able to say, use the side of the helmet such as BYU or Ohio State.

Ability to edit positions, edit depth chart, and equipement

I agree with pretty much everything mentioned previously.

My biggest thing is log slots and branding. Might as well add jersey layouts, too(as far as the number-centering, etc.)

IF they add FCS teams next year, and EWU gets the nod, I want to be able to give a TB team a red turf like EWU, just saying. Because of Boise, we can give a team a blue turf. So it;d be nice to have that bone thrown to us, as well.
