Welcome to the first edition of the Operation Sports Text-Sim Encyclopedia. This will be the most comprehensive database of sports text sims out there, and it is being made available to you free of charge. We will also be going door-to-door selling hardcover versions for $29.95, so consider yourself lucky to get the online version for free. The staff at Operation Sports has put years of research into this project. Marriages were strained, families torn apart. A lot of cheap beer was consumed.

Was it all worth it? Oh yeah! Where else are you going to find links to a dirt-track motorcycle racing and a handball text sim? However, before paging through the encyclopedia, be sure to read the disclaimer.

Disclaimer: This is an incomplete list and likely always will be. It is impossible to track all the different text sims that are out there. If you see an error or omission, please point it out. We will publish future versions of the Operation Sports Text-Sim Encyclopedia with updates, additions and corrections. This encyclopedia does not include online-only simulation games. To qualify for the encyclopedia, games need to be available for purchase in stores, downloadable or have a single-player mode. Games are listed in no particular order.

Baseball

Out of the Park Baseball - The 11th version of this successful franchise will be released soon. Arguably the deepest and most respected text sim on the market

Pure Sim Baseball - Developer Shaun Sullivan is now at Wolverine Studios and recently released Puresim 2.

Baseball Mogul - Another long-running series that is not quite as deep as OOTP or Puresim, but works well for players looking for more accessibility.

Diamond Mind Baseball - An extremely accurate single-season replay sim. The 2009 season disk was recently released for the ninth version of this game.

Action PC Baseball - Does not get much better for single-season play.

Baseball for Windows – From long-time board-game makers APBA. Not sure when the last version of this game was released or if future versions are planned.

Strategic Baseball Simulator - Freeware single-season replay game.

Sandbox Studios - This group supposedly has a baseball game in development. We shall see.

Inside the Park Baseball - From the makers of OOTP baseball, this one puts you in the shoes of a player instead of GM.

Baseball Manager - Text sims on the iPhone? You bet.

Strat-O-Matic Baseball - Started as a board game and has evolved to the PC. Very accurate game engine.

Pro Basketball

Draft Day Sports Pro Basketball - The sequel to the acclaimed first version of the Wolverine Studios game should be released soon.

Jump Shot Basketball - Fun basketball sim despite its drab interface. Season updates seem to be released annually.

Fast Break Basketball - The developers of Fast Break Basketball were supposed to team with Grey Dog Software for future versions, but I have not seen any updates since 2007.

Strat-O-Matic Basketball - Very accurate, very fun, just like the other Strat-O-Matic games.

College Basketball

Draft Day Sports College Basketball - A deep sim from Wolverine Studios, which also features slick menus and catchy graphics.

Fast Break College Basketball - A 2010 version is supposedly in the works for this excellent college-hoops sim.

Coaching a Dynasty - Good game when it came out, but I have not heard anything about an update since 2002.

Tournament Dreams College Basketball - A real fun game when it came out but has since fallen off the face of the earth. If you can find a place to download this one, I would recommend you do so.

Stellar College Basketball - This free downloadable game looks promising.

Pro Football

Front Office Football - Front Office Football is to football text sims what Slayer is to thrash metal. The genre might not exist without it.

Professional Football Simulator - In a world with surprisingly few pro football text sims, this one continues to grow.

Football Mogul - Not nearly as strong as its baseball counterpart.

Action PC Football - Detailed single-season football sim.

Total Pro Football - A colorful game that apparently fizzled out after the first version released in 2004.

Universal Football League - A very basic looking pro-football sim.

Draft Day Sports Pro Football - Currently in development from Wolverine Studios. Not sure if this one will ever see the light of day.

Strat-O-Matic Football - Excellent sim based on the old board game.

College Football

Front Office Football: The College Years - Just as deep and almost as addicting as its NFL counterpart.

Bowl Bound College Football - Ranks right up there with FOFTCY.

Soccer

Football Manager - I am not a soccer guy at all so I have never played this one (he has never played Football Manager and OS hired him to write about text sims?), but it supposedly exceeds even OOTP baseball.

Sick as a Parrot - Click the link. Not even going to try and pretend that I know anything about this one.

Wrestling/Fighting/Boxing

Total Extreme Wrestling - The Football Manager of pro-wrestling sims. Build superstars, develop angles and expand your fan base as the head of a pro-wrestling organization.

Wrestling Spirit - Put on some tights, inject yourself with HGH and try to make it as a pro wrestler in this text sim from Grey Dog Software.

Title Bout Championship Boxing - A boxing text sim from the makers of OOTP baseball.

World of Mixed Martial Arts - Adam Ryland’s MMA text sim hopes to one day reach the level of Total Extreme Wrestling.

No Holds Barred MMA Simulator - I think this just sims individual fights, but not 100 percent sure.

Ultimate MMA Simulator - Another option if you are into simulating broken bones and sweaty men pummeling each other.

Hockey

Eastside Hockey Manager - Sadly, 2007 was the last version of this amazing game. Only OOTP baseball allows you to immerse yourself into an entire sporting universe like Eastside does (Football Manager probably does too, but I would not know).

Faceoff Hockey - I think Wolverine Studios has pulled the plug on future versions of this one.

Action PC Hockey - Supposedly, this title is in the works.

Strat-O-Matic Hockey - The long-running board game also offers a PC hockey text sim.

Miscellaneous

Total Pro Golf - A golf sim? Wolverine Studios managed to pull it off.

Hooves of Thunder - A horse-racing sim. Cannot be much worse than all those guys that sit in the sports books and watch the horses on tiny televisions all day.

Quarter Pole Plus - I stumbled across this one while researching text sims on Wikipedia. No, it is not a porno or stripper sim. It is another horse-racing sim…I think.

League Handball Manager - Do they even have professional handball leagues?

Speedway Meeting - A dirt-track motorcycle racing sim. Do not expect this one to outsell Modern Warfare 2 any time soon.
