Well, we lost our ne'erdowell hobby.
There was a point where all of us here at OS were black sheep..."video-gamers"
Our girlfriends, parents, friends, teachers, and all sorts looked at us and scoffed, "get a real hobby!"
Well, jokes on you...I dont mean to gloat, actually, it's quite bittersweet. At one point all of us were looked down as nerds/geeks, but now we're a demographic waiting to be plunged for profit.
This is not a recent occurence, but seeing as how mainstream and viable(billions of dollars in revenue/"recession proof") our hobby has become we are no longer a rogue group but rather a cog in the machine.
I remember when I was younger and actually hid from people the fact that I was a hardcore gamer, only because I was afraid I would be looked at as a "nerd" or "geek"....now those same people I hid my obssesion from call me asking, "hey, did you get the Wii, it's awesome" or "dude, Rockband is the ****."
Like I said it's bittersweet and I dont mean to sound "holier than thou"...I truly enjoy that production values have increased, and that gaming can be considered high art....but, its at the cost of losing some of my identity.

This is so true on so many levels. Even 6-7 Years ago, games were much more of a cult kind of following than a pure mainstream form of entertainment. Nowadays, with the Wii, Rock Band and other game blending the line between gamers and non-gamers, gaming is something that is enjoyed by many more. It's crazy to see how much the industry has grown since I've been a part of covering it, it's really crazy.
