Key Matchups for Divisional Weekend – Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers

- SF – Offensive line Vs. GB – Front 7 - The 49ers in many people’s eyes have the most complete O-line comprised of RT Anthony Davis, RG Alex Boone, C Jonathan Goodwin, (pro bowl) LG Mike Iupati, and (pro bowl) LT Joe Staley. They have stayed healthy all year, and are a huge part of San Fran’s success. On the other side will be Green Bay’s front 7, who won’t forget the week 1 too little too late, 30 – 22 loss at home to the 49ers. They have been average all year, and had an easy playoff win last week at home against Joe Webb and the Vikings.
- GB – Offensive Line Vs. SF – Front 7 - This is the best defense left in the playoffs ranking top 5 against the rush and pass. Hoping to get RE Justin Smith back from injury this week, his presence was sorely missed. This is going to be Green Bay’s focus for good reason, they should hope to contain the battle upfront at least long enough for Aaron Rodgers to put some points on the board, and get a few good runs to mix up play action, along with the no huddle up tempo offense.
- SF – Defensive Backs Vs. GB – Wide Receivers - One match-up in particular to watch will be who does San Francisco let cover the underrated #1 WR for the Packers. I’m not talking about Greg Jennings or Jordy Nelson, I’m talking about James Jones who has led the team with 64 rec, 784 yards and 14 TD’s. The 49ers know this and will put the nickel corner in whenever the Packers look to spread the field, teams have had a hard time all year matching up with Jones.
- GB – QB Aaron Rodgers Vs. SF QB – Colin Kaepernick - This could get out of hand early if Colin Kaepernick has some young excited QB mistakes. In the last 3 weeks of the regular season his pass completions were at under 60% for the first time all year. His speed and athleticism are undeniable, he could easily run away from any GB defender. For Green Bay we all know how good Rodgers is, if not just trust he is that damn good. He is one of my favorite QB’s to watch play the game, and for his team he is what makes this team a contender. In 2010 Rodgers and Green Bay went 3-0 on the road en route to a Lombardi Trophy, so I wouldn’t worry about road woes.
- GB – K Mason Crosby Vs. SF – K David Akers - This is where most fans of both teams have been underwhelmed lately. The 49ers even brought in Billy “don’t kill me Ravens fans” Cundiff, who after competing won’t be kicking, it will still be Akers who has had a rare off year. On kicks of 50+ he is 2 for 6, and from 40-49 he is 7 of 13. Green Bay has had similar woes with a usually on, Mason Crosby who is 2 of 7 from 50+, 9 of 12 from 40 – 49 yards, and missed 2 from 30-39. Crosby says he will be ready when his time comes this Saturday.
