Key Matchups for Wild Card Weekend – Seattle Seahawks at Washington Redskins
Posted on January 6, 2013 at 01:13 PM.

  1. (WAS) QB – Robert Griffin III Vs. (SEA) QB – Russell Wilson - Last year was Houston’s T.J. Yates and Cincinnati’s Andy Dalton pairing the 1st rookie QB’s to face off in the playoffs. Once again we have 2 rookie QB’s ready to duel it out, so let’s start with RG3. Griffin at home in 2012 was surprisingly not as efficient as on the road, which could be a blessing in disguise. RG3′s stats at home are nothing to worry about with 8 TD’s and 1 INT, and 4 rushing TD’s. As for Wilson, he is unstoppable so far in Seattle, but away from the 12th man he is human, going for 9 TD’s and 8 INT’s.
  2. (SEA) RB – Marshawn Lynch Vs. (WAS) – Front 7 - The Redskins finished 2012 allowing the 5th least rushing yards, and are giving up an average of 110 yards at home, but only 82 on the road. Lynch is eating up yards on the road with a 5.2 YPC average, and 92 total.
  3. (WAS) RB – Alfred Morris Vs. (SEA) – Front 7 - The 6th round draft pick Morris has been my favorite rookie story of 2012, and a big reason the Redskins had one of the best drafts in recent memory. Alfred has been as steady as you could ask all year, and at home is averaging 5.2 YPC. Seattle however has the best team defense in the NFL, and has only allowed 245 points total all season, with the 10th best rushing D.
  4. (SEA) DB – Richard Sherman Vs. (WAS) WR – Pierre Garcon - Sherman is just one of many talented DB’s for Seattle. In just his 2nd year, he has 12 INT’s, with 8 this season. While Pierre Garcon has not had his best year, he is still a threat if you let RG3 find him. One of 4 receivers with 500 yards shows how much the ball is spread around.
  5. (WAS) LT – Trent Williams Vs. (SEA) RE – Chris Clemons - If Clemons can get to RG3, the Seahawks have a great chance to win in Washington. Chris has only 2 sacks, and no assisted tackles on Seattle’s 5 losses. In winning efforts, Clemons has 9.5 sacks and 30 tackles. Washington has allowed a sack 33 times, with a league AVG of 36, and 2.2 per game at home.
