3 QB's who will be drafted in 1st round of 2013 NFL Draft.
Posted on December 31, 2012 at 06:25 PM.
63
220lbs.
Pocket Presence
Active feet, I personally would like to a bit more of a climb into pocket. Later in 2012, he seemed to get stuck in backfield bouncing, instead of climbing.
Keeps eyes downfield, would like to see faster decisiveness, internal pocket clock, stays too long sometimes.
Throwing Mechanics -
Geno throws with a compact, over the top, high release motion, very good deep, medium range/accuracy, sometimes throws too hard on short throws. Makes screen passes look routine.
Strong arm, nice trajectories, angles, but gets too twitchy in lower body sometimes. This is Genos strong point.
Mobility
Pass first, but if he sees a lane he is a threat to scramble, looks to slide, or find sideline.
Give him time and he will make a play.
Leadership -
Has shown poise on and off the field, hypes up his team, encouraging them. Gives his team more credit than himself, often talking about others.
Draft projection Top 5 (With todays NFL, he will go #1 to the KC Chiefs)
Matt Barkley Sr. USC
62
230 lbs.
Pocket Presence
Matt is smart, and has great pocket awareness, avoiding incoming rushers, will reset feet to find an open receiver. Willing to stand in and take a hit, while making the throw. This is a high point for Barkley.
Throwing Mechanics -
Nice mechanics, balance, very capable of throwing on the run.
Good timing and accuracy on short and medium range throws, hangs ball on deep throws.
Mobility -
Doesnt look to tuck & run, he will struggle to make plays outside of pocket.
Leadership
Intelligent, and hard working. Barkley stayed for his senior year, when he could have been drafted around where Ryan Tannehill went in 2012. Shows command of USC offense, calling his own audibles, running hurry up.
Draft Projection Top 15
Tyler Wilson RS Sr Arkansas
63
220 lbs
Pocket Presence
Shows ability to take hits and hang tough while making throws, but in 2012 sometimes exited too early.
Throwing Mechanics
Nice compact motion, needs work on balance for more accuracy when hurried. Strong arm, but can get too confident/excited and tries to fit the ball in small windows.
Mobility
Decent mobility, can scramble, needs to pick and choose better.
Leadership
Film room junkie, kept teammates from leaving Arkansas after Bobby Petrino left. Earns respect of team, by showing some real toughness.
Draft Projection - Mid late 1st

Actually from what the experts have been saying about what they know about the teams, only Barkley has a shot at being a 1st round pick. And most say hes a top 15 player. Geno Smith and Wilson are more of a middle 2nd round pics. Personally from seeing Geno Smith play, if you draft him in the top 2 rounds to be your franchise, your going to be regretting it more than the Jets trading up to get Sanchez. Honestly i think Sanchez was a better passer in college, and had better coaches. But i dont see Smith being anything but a wildcat QB. He is almost identical to Pat White, except White had a bigger arm and was faster on the field, there accuracy is similar with the edge going to Smith. And White only last 2 years before he was out the league! I do think Smith will be in the league for 5 or 6 years but not much longer. Look at his skills this way, RG3 is more accurate, has a better arm and is more elusive and faster than Smith. RG3 has a good D, good WRs, a good RB and hes been exceptional for a rookie, better than some veterans and has a coaching staff that tailors there offense to his skills! And it took him until the final game of the season to even make the playoffs, thats the NFL. He's going to need even more than RG3 bc hes not as good of a passer, so he's going to need good everything around him like RG3, except one or 2 things he will need great around him, like a elite pass rusher, elite WR, or shutdown D to succeed in the NFL for more than 1 contract!

bmj2k7:Um. That's a lot of misinformation you just posted. A whole lotta.
Geno will go first. My picks for QB's who may somehow get picked in the first round.
EJ. Manuel and Ryan Nassib.
The guys I wouldn't touch. Barkley and Landry. Barkley has no arm and Landry has no feel for the game. He's like a Flacco. All arm, a little slow on the uptake.

I also think Geno will be the first one to go this year, although that's not saying a lot with this years class of QBs. I don't think there is any way that this guy is a franchise QB.

Actually i posted correct information, go to nfl.com and you'll see where i got my info from. They compared Geno Smith to Jason Campbell!

http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0ap10...t-quarterbacks is the link i found recently comparing Smith to Campbell, Manuel to Freeman, Glennon to Flacco, Wilson is the only one compared to a good QB in Matt Ryan. Honestly i think Smith is more like Pat White than Campbell, but either way its not looking good for any QB taken this year, let alone anyone near the top of the draft! KC isnt taking a QB and doesn't look like right now there interested in Smith, if they do take one, it would have to be Barkley bc when hes healthy he was the best QB in college this year, especially the way he started off the year with 10 tds to 1 int.

It doesn't really matter these reports change all the time on who the teams like. A week ago they were talking about Smith being the first QB taken in the draft. Three days later they were talking about the kid from Georgia (I forget his name), that he would be the number one pick by the Chiefs. So things change every few days. We will start to learn more about who the like after the combine and everyones draft day workouts.

# 4 bmj2k7 : I was hoping you wouldn't respond and just leave it as is. I really didn't want to take the time to show you how wrong your post was and how it wasn't based on any facts.
1st you stated Barkley is the only one who has a shot at being a 1st round pick. Please. Where did you read that. Matter of fact. I don't want to know because who ever wrote it is an idiot. You couldn't have possibly read that from anywhere. Especially since Barkley is not ranked as the #1 QB. The guy who you think is the next Pat White is. LOL.
Far as Pat White. He was 6 ft in cleats and 190 pounds wet. Geno Smith is 6'3 214. Are you bind. Were you totally ignorant to these facts. You would have to be to make the comparison.
White was hoping he would get a chance to throw at the combine.
Geno is going as the #1 QB who most likely won't throw at the combine. His choice. Besides their size and their status going in the draft they are exactly alike. LOL.
Next you started talking about Geno's accuracy.
Accuracy comparison between Geno and RG3.
2012 Geno. 71%. CMP% 2011 RG3 72% CMP.
Geno threw for 42 td's this year. RG3 threw for 37 in 2011. They both had 6 int's. What are you talking about. Yup. RG3 is much more accurate than Smith. What facts do you have to back that up. Stats say otherwise. Every report I have seen on Smith says he's accurate. Some have said he's naturally accurate. He doesn't have to have his feet set and shoulder square to make an accurate pass. His arm strength is above average for an NFL QB. If you actually watched him play you would know he can make every throw. Unlike Sanchez, Barkley and Pat White. SMDH.
Comparing Geno to White and Sanchez is just disrespectful. What's your angle. What do you have against the kid to compare him to the worst QB in the league and guy who wasn't even a QB prospect.
That's weird. Only you can ask yourself why you would do that.
Those are comparisons no one in their right mind would make.
Anyone who would compare Geno to Sanchez with his 6'3 frame, athleticism, rocket arm and three years starting is an idiot. Let alone a guy who wasn't even considered a QB prospect in the NFL.
Seems kind weird to me. What is your angle.
If you want to compare anyone to Sanchez it would be Barkley. Who's dropping fast and is already hurt. The one guy who you say is a lock for the first round is the main guy people expect to slip. He's already slipped out of the #1 spot months ago. No arm. No athleticism. That's Barkley. Not Geno.
Please show me a mock draft or scouting report that doesn't have Geno being taken in the first round let alone the first pick. I would love to see you pull that one off.
Now what ever site told you that Geno compares to the human statue Jason Campbell should stop writing. Sounds like a writer that couldn't find a QB to compare Smith to and pulled one out of his butt. Like most of your opinion.
With all that being said I'm not a huge Geno fan. Which is why I moved on from my earlier post and didn't eviscerate you earlier for all the BS you posted.
But you asked for it.

Let me add the first 5 games this year. Geno was completing 84% of his passes. Not accurate. You have got to be kidding me.

im going to go out on a limb... no QB's in the top 15 picks and heck not even in the first round... it is a weak QB draft

cmehustle @ Jan 4
Its a weak QB draft, but a QB will be picked in the top 15 and maybe two. QBs are the quickest way to go from nothing to something in the NFL and thats the reason they always go so high and get overrated sometimes. That being said right now is a little early to be talkinig about whos going where, especially with no blue chip prospects at qb. Things are defintely going to change before the draft. Just look at last season, Russel Wilson went in the third round. Now who would draft Weeden or maybe even Tannehill over Russell today? So the answers are soon to come my friends.
