Bowl Nerd presents the St. Petersberg Bowl: Central Florida vs. Rutgers
Posted on December 29, 2009 at 01:33 AM.
I played first as UCF and lost 27-14. I did read a (very) little about this bowl before playing the game and learned that their offense relied fairly heavily on running back Brynn Harvey. Since 'Ask Corso' loves to run the same four or five running plays repeatedly over the course of the game, I figured that would be a good thing.
But, much like the actual bowl game, Harvey was of little use to me. The UCF defense was okay, but the inability to establish the run really hindered the overall effort of the team.
To my complete shock, I destroyed the Floridians when I played as the Scarlet Knights: 49-10.
What I took away from that game was that my sliders were not going to completely keep me from being able to compete, as I was beginning to wonder. It just seemed like the Rutgers players were faster and stronger than the UCF players, particularly WR Mohamed Sanu. If I'd known in the first quarter what I'd figured out late in the third about how good he is, I'd have abused him and probably won by even more.
I also learned from this game combined with watching the real game that the depth charts as I have them are somewhat inaccurate, as the QB for Rutgers was not the freshman who ended up running the show when I watched the game. I don't know that I have the ambition to make those depth chart changes before playing each game. I want them to reflect the actual teams as they play, but if I had to research each game before playing, I'd simply run out of steam at some point with making all the changes.
I'll just go like this...for now.
