CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!!
So I have to vent and get some major frustrations here because I feel more than absolutely robbed at this point. Since the inception of the 360, I've owned 3 systems: one of the first round of launched consoles, the Elite, and now the Pro (with HDMI). In that time, I've had 8 seperate RROD issues. Yes, 8!!!
Three of these red rings errors have come from non-warranty based failures (ie: E73), so the repairs here have come out of pocket. And of course the E73 error comes from a malfunction with the network connecting jack... seriously? Are you telling me I can't even connect my 360 to XBL without it messing up?
This is just plain WRONG! How the hell can a company get away with this? CURSE WORDS, CURSE WORDS!!! I feel completely robbed and taken advantage of at this point. Words (not even these) can express how angry I am right now. Serioulsy, I want to take a hammer or my size 13 to this console & curb stomp it.
On top of this, my (once) fancy PC is constantly crashing, has major load errors and at times will not reboot without an act of god. Yet another MS fail. God forbid Apple or a company with some kind of sustainability comes out with a console because MS will be in major trouble.

The major downside to it is the cost of games + friends. It's hard to just eat the 360, trade all my games in and have to repurchase (re-beat) them again. Not only that, most people I know don't own a PS3 so I'd have a brand spanking new console to play with absolutely nobody.

To win, sometimes you have to lose.
I, for example, sold all games, guitar and broken console. I alerted my Live friends to let me know their PSN id if they had.... Nowadays I have more friends on PSN than Live. When playing 2K9, KZ2, RBs... we get together to play in multiplayer.
Well, sacrifices need to be made when you migrate from one platform to another. It`s not easy, but you get used to.
Alternatively, if you don`t think that MS deserves your $$ anymore but you don`t want to jump to another platform, get your 360 fixed, unlock it and play backup games. I don`t recommend doing this, cuz you can get banned at Live, but at least it`s a relief to your pain.

I purchased 2 XBox 360s (one is basically a brick / past 3 year warranty) and I'm on my 8th controller with 7 of the others buttons going bad. So I'm basically out $1000 for about $400 of gaming hardware. The PS3 sure is looking hella cheap right now.

Before I went next gen I was really thinking of a 360. But the failure rate was a major reason I decided against it. I'm really curious to see how this will affect the customer loyalty when the next round of consoles comes out. MS will have to offer a super (and free) warranty to alleviate some of those concerns.

Very true Rudy. This was one of the major reasons I didn't go with a PS3 due to the PS2 having some shotty builds (disc lens errors) and Sony seemed to make little to no effort to fix this. I went with the 360 and when they started to fail I wasn't too worried due to the warranties that came originally with the 360 and then the extended MS warranty that was offered down the line. Little did I know that these errors would become as vast and as frequent as they are.
With that said, yes, I am definitely going to be VERY wary of any further piece of hardware (software included) that MS comes up with. This is probably one major reason as to why many of the major gaming companies are going with a longer shelf life for these consoles than they ever have. At this point, next time a console launche rolls around I will be a Free Agent and MS is going to have to work hard to earn my business. Microsoft just better hope that Sony doesn't get their act together (probably not), Nintendo doesn't try jumping into the "hardcore gamer" market (probably won't) or Apple doesn't come out with a console of their own (who knows?) because they will be hurting bad.

I feel you, man. I lost 4 new 360's in less than 3 years to 3 different causes. I was livid and depressed because I loved my 360 games. I told everyone, when my 3rd one died and I got my 4th(love that Best Buy warranty), that when #4 goes, it will be time to take a step back and re-evaluate things. I looked for the newest chipset and codename on #4, found it and thought it was bulletproof. It lasted less time than the others.
After a couple of weeks, I decided to go PS3. I had an extensive library of 360 games and accessories. I boxed it all up and went to Gamestop. Fortunately, they were having a 360 trade in promotion where you got an extra $10 for every 3 360 games traded in. I ended up with a PS3, 6 games and an extra controller and blu ray remote. My library is now at 16 games and I love it. It's quiet, it's reliable, and the Sony exclusives blow away the 360 exclusives. I can only dream of what Gears of War would look like or how long the campaign could be on the PS3. You don't have to worry about scratches on your PS3 games, the blu ray discs have some sort of teflon type coating on them. It did take me a good 6 months to get used to the controller, as I was an Xbox guy since 2003. I still haven't given up on making the PS 360 controller that is out there.
After 8, man, maybe it's time to re-evaluate things. If you go PS3, look me up. We can play APF or NHL or the Show.

PS3 is bliss. Yes, you get demos later, patches later...but you always can rest assured that your system will operate. The quality is great! Good luck my friend.

I've had 4, so don't feel so bad. Honestly, I think it's a testament to Microsoft's console that so many people actually put up with it in the first place. For all the back and forth bickering between fanboys, I think it's a fair assessment to say that Xbox 360 has a pretty strong foothold in the market, regardless of what any statistics try to tell you.
I contemplated the switch to PS3 like you did, but just like you said, the majority of my friends and people I like to game with don't have that, it's just a fact, plain and simple. Fortunately, the Arcade system is pretty cheap, and with the new motherboard in it, hopefully it fixes the problem. It's a lot more quiet, and so far, I haven't had any issues

I got 2x 360s, both ended up with 3RL. I gave up on 360, bought a PS3 in the beginning of this year. Dude, excellent titles are available on PS3, in special the exclusive ones.
Give other console companies a chance. You`ll not show regret.
