My name is Carlos and I'm a Graphic Design major in my senior year of a BFA degree. I am also a long time OS member, sports fanatic, and I am currently one of the artists working on an upcoming game release called Gridiron Heroes.
For my Senior Project class I was tasked with connecting a means to benefit my surrounding community. My idea is to bring a professional football franchise to the Austin (TX) area. Austin is not only one of the most economically thriving economies in the nation, it is also the largest city in the United States without a professional sports franchise. With so much progressive thinking within the city, Austin has a unique opportunity to create a franchise that not only positively impacts the immediate surrounding communities, but also manages to be financially and environmentally responsible.
This is a project I've been dreaming about creating for the last 4 years. My hopes are to use this project as a portfolio piece so that I may one day present it for an interview. One of my lifelong dreams is to work in the sports industry, and I hope to one day soon apply locally to Austin's ESPN and EA branches in the very near future.
How to accomplish this?
My proposal will not only include branding and identity for the pro football franchise, but will also include information on how a team benefits the community. I intend to do this through research which shows how a team positively affects a community. I intend then to take these stats & research and develop them into attractive, easily understood infographics.
My main goal is to seek and spread inspiration and knowledge. I wanted to create a communication swap bringing together art, design, and sports here within our OS community. I will post my findings in terms of art, design, etc. in place of aforementioned information. I would also like for members to feel free to post things they've found. As my project goes on, I will post updates on the progress. At the end, I will post my presentation for all to see.
What do I need from you?
In one word: Research! Does your team use green aspects in the stadium design? Does your favorite team use solar panels to help power the stadium? (Qwest Field) Does your team's stadium building design benefit the local environment? Is your team's stadium built in a mountain?! (UTEP) Are there local foundations players and teams have in your local community? (NFL Play 60, Brees Foundation, Warrick Dunn Foundation, etc.) Are there any articles you've read that shows how much money hosting Super Bowls or NFL games brings in annually? Have you seen cool graphs or charts on your favorite sports sites, ESPN & SI magazines, etc that you thought looked cool? Do you know where to find large quality football photos? Have you ever attempted to make your own Madden custom cover and looked for online tutorials on how to do it?
This is a means to not only share your hometown pride but to nerd out on sports facts and share info. This is not regulated to football only but sports information in general. If you have any resourceful links, images, PDFs, etc. feel free to post them.
I greatly appreciate it.
