Well, tonight marks the start of the 2008-2009 Missouri State University Men's Basketball season. The Bears are in Alabama tonight to take on the Auburn Tigers. I'm pretty excited to see how this new look team does after losing their two best players and only returning six lettermen from last year. There are a lot of new faces on the team this year, including five freshmen and one redshirt freshman.
Many people don't expect the Bears to do much this season, including their opponents in the MVC, who picked the Bears to finish last in the conference. This coming off of a 17-16 season where the Bears had a great home record, going 14-2 at Hammons Student Center, including a huge win late in the season over the 2007-2008 MVC Champions, Drake University. However, the road proved to be a difficult place to play for the Bears, where they went an abysmal 3-13.
One bright spot for the Bears this year is the opening of their new arena. The JQH Arena was opened to the public last night when The Eagles performed for the sold out crowd in Springfield, Missouri. The Bears will officially open the arena of Saturday, November 22 when they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The MVC should be interesting to watch, there are too many uncertains this year. With the probable exception of Creighton, the field seems pretty wide open. My Salukis had a good recruiting class but who knows how much the Freshmen will contribute, they could either be very good or middle of the pack. Oh well good luck to Missouri State except when they play us.
