The Good, The Bad And The Really Ugly - The Start Of The Rebuild
Posted on February 5, 2019 at 02:59 PM.
It seems that the Angels did not fax Zack Cozarts contract into the MLB offices before losing the original copy...so we stepped in and convinced Zack to come back to Cincy. Told you we had a smart guy in our front office, he gets things taken care of, no questions asked. We nicknamed him Epstein 2.0.
Rumors of not so honorable happening about the Angels may have reached Shohei Ohtani before his signing and we signed him as well.
We traded Boston - Duvall, Castillo and Peraza for Benintendi. Then Boston tried to sneak Castillo and Peraza on DFA and we swept in and claimed them. (Did this three time, each time they did the same thing.)
We traded Milwauke - Suarez, Wooten and some low prospect for Shaw and Hoover.
We sent Vlad Guiterrez, Aquino and some catcher (Cruz) to Seattle for Mike Leake in return.
Then some minor leaguer then got switched around, Nicolino and Walker for Vincej, Mejias-Brean and RP Josh Smith.
We brought Cingrani back from LA with a new friend Venditte a switch pitcher for Peralta and Rowen.
Matt Belisle and Adam Rosales are Reds again after sending some minor league prospects to Cleveland.
The Mets most of really wanted to unload Jay Bruce as they took Tyler Goeddel and De Paula.
Ryan LaMarre was happy to get out of Minnesota as he quoted, "His baseballs nearly froze up there", good luck Mason Williams and Dylan Floro as they are headed up there. Pack your parkas.
Had to let Sean Casey handle the Sonny Gray trade with the Yankees. He again used his charm to convince Cashman that Iglesias, Worley and Brice were just what the Yankees needed to win the AL East. Go Red Sox. Welcome to Cincinnati, Sonny.
Always Sonny in Cincinnati!
Some veteran leadership was signinged from the FA pool, Jonathan Broxton was brought in to be the new closer, Ryan Hanigan was brought in to add depth to the catcher position, Steve Selsky and Kyle Waldrop add to the minor league outfield depth.
We also add a well loved former Red to back up left field and first base...BIG DONKEY is back. Sean was able to talk Adam Dunn out of retirement. Love me some Home Runs and Strikeouts.
Other minor league trades are still being hashed out, we will keep you informed as they happen.
Our projected Opening Day roster...
Everyday eight - Mesoraco, Votto, Gennett, Cozart, Shaw, Benintendi, Hamilton & Bruce.
Bench - Barnhart, Dunn, Peraza, Rosales and Winker / Selsky / Kivlehan.
Rotation - DeSclafani, Castillo, Ohtani (possible ROY?), Leake and Gray.
Bullpen - Homer ( we will give him plenty of time to warm up, is 24 hour notice good?),
Belisle ( hope to get him some spot starts, when we get his stamnia up),
David Hernandez, Garrett, Lorenzen, Cingrani and Broxton.
FEELING GOOD.
