The Perfect Football Game
Posted on August 13, 2009 at 01:13 AM.
First and foremost i want to state that this is my opinion so please dont flame me because you disagree. I realize people will disagree and i expect that as everyone is entitled to there opinion like I am entitled to mine.

In the years since the exclusive rights have been given to ea sports i have felt starved of a good football game. Madden is by no means a terrible franchise but i have always felt that 2k was a better game overall. but to me the perfect football game would combine elements from both of these games as well as another football franchise that is lesser known.

First off i have to have the running game from 2k. To me the run blocking is just light years ahead of madden even now. Madden is either a huge gain or a huge loss. Too many times i have tried to run on all madden to just have absolutely no chance because my fullback or lineman just does nothing to help me. but i would take the animation from madden on the ps2 beacuse i feel those games had the best running animations. also the control scheme in madden is slightly better

As for passing i will probaly get a lot of flack for this but i like the passing mechanic in nfl fever 2004. yes it was a bit confusing at first but once i mastered it i had more fun passing in that game the any other. And in nfl fever i felt that this was the only football game that every intereption was entirely my fault because u had complete control over where you put the ball.

as for defense i like madden but give me the ai from 2k. i have always liked playing defense in madden because of the amazing hits even though they are a bit exaggerated. but the tackling could be better when comes to wrap up tackles. i would say use the euphoria engine but i have yet to see it in action in a football game so i have to hold off for now.

For kicking i could really care less as 2k and madden have similar systems which are both boring in my opinion anyways. but im mostly kicking extra points so it isnt a priority to me. they have always been too easy though.

For the presentation aspect i think its safe to say 2k5 has got it hands down. there has never been a game that felt like watching a real broadcast better than 2k5. graphically madden 10 has got it granted there isnt 2k football at the moment. i am honestly amazed at the level of detail in the players and sometimes looking at screenshots looks like the game is prerendered.

I think combining these features would make an overall amazing game. I realize 2k and ea fanboys will argue over that "this is ridiculous madden is better no 2k is blah blah blah". but this is just my opinion and take it for what it is an opinion u can disagree because it isnt fact. feel free to leave comments or even give your idea for a perfect football game.

Good and clearly explained thoughts. I too am an old Dreamcast NFL 2K fan as well as X-Box 2K5 fan. As a whole, 2K5 has always been the football game I remember playing that was, for me, a true football experience. I haven't purchased a Madden game since '03 on the X-Box, think Marshall Faulk was on the cover? Anyways, I have to admit that I will probably pick up Madden '10 this year. I think it has made enough progress, far from perfect, to warrant a purchase. Madden could and should take advantage of the ESPN name and improve things like pre-game, half time and post-game shows. Hopefully they are listening and will include these fully into Madden '11. Until then, I'm going to try and enjoy Madden '10.

My biggest complaint about all the site reviews for Madden 2010 so far is that none of the reviews have mentioned any differences between the PS3 and the X-360 versions. I have both systems and would like to know which looks better, which runs more smoothly, etc.

That's all!
