NFL Blitz

Last night I was hanging out at my buddies house, and we decided to play some video games. Street Fighter, NBA Live 10, NCAA basketball 10, NCAA football 10, Hydro Thunder(PS1), and NFL Blitz 2001(PS1).

Had a blast with all of them, especially Blitz. I forgot how fun that game was. I've owned NFL Blitz for the N64 forever, and me and my brother played it countless times when we were younger, and even still play it occasionally when he comes home from college. Last night I had one of the most exciting games of my life in that game.

It was a back and forth game the whole time, we were pretty much evenly matched. His go to play was the half back pass, and mine was Da Bomb. When the fourth quarter comes around, it's all tied at 14 a piece. He scores with about a miniute and a half to go, now up 21-14. I get the ball and drive down the field, but throw and interception in the red zone. Only 20 seconds left, the games over I'm thinking. Luckily for me, it was not. His first play I blitz him like crazy, and his QB fumbles the ball! One of my players runs it into the end zone, all tied at 21. He wasn't able to score with the 10 or so seconds left, so we're headed to OT.

He gets the ball first, and gets a nice return with Emmit Smith. Next play he throws an interception, and I have it at the 50 yard line. Next play I choose Da Bomb and throw it deep to Randy Moss and he runs it in for the touchdown. Blitz doesn't use sudden death OT, so he gets the ball back. He was able to get the ball to my 35 yard line or so, but in the end he throws and interception and I go on to win the game 28-21 in OT.

Through all the elbow drops, late hits, PI that's legal, and so on, this has to one of my favorite games of all time. I was suprised a 9 or 10 year old game was able to give me that much enjoyment, but I guess that's what arcade style games are supposed to give you, and that's why I enjoy them so much. I did have fun with all the games we played(went into OT in two, lost by 2 in one, and barely lost both times in Hyrdo Thunder), but this was the one that really stood out to me. There was a thread about it recently, but I mainly play games for fun, not 100-0 beatdown fun, but challenging fun I guess is how I would describe it.

Any old times classics you still play and enjoy today? Or just any comments, feel free to add them.

Yup, no doubt. I like realistic football games too, but when they're not done right or if I can't enjoy them for some reason, I'd rather just stick to a game like Blitz because it can be a blast.
