Profit on Madden curse or blessing
Posted on September 13, 2011 at 10:22 PM.
I mean the bottom line.

After all is said and done, what is the overall profit on Madden.

I would have to assume that Madden is a very profitable title for EA Sports and EA as a whole.

But, I wonder if that is a blessing as much as a curse for us the fan. As EA Bombs in other titles and games, over and over again... Does this increase the pressure for Madden to be even more profitable.

Do they pay the team less, or cut costs on QA etc...

If there was a company that only made Madden. There was no other source of revenue for the company. Would this increase the quality of the product?

I hear people talk all the time about a large studios resources... But, at what cost does that come?

Is there a happy medium? Maybe 2 sports titles a year for one company that they focus on and do really well?

More questions then answers, but I really am trying to understand how EA Sports can allow the Next Gen version of Madden and NCAA to come out as they do. Features are generally not very inspired, things are added half baked. I just don't get it.

NBA 2k got better after they lost the NFL, NHL, Links, and failed at boxing. With only 3 sports games with one being in-jeopardy, seems like 2k went all-in with the titles they did have. Maybe if EA did have so many sports games, and if they didn't have the Madden name, we would probably see an all-in effort like NBA 2k.

Madden has gotten better since last year, but most of us be waiting for this for years.

Good point. Though NFL 2k5 was a great game in itself. Never was a fan of MLB 2k.
