EA Sports something I don't understand.
Posted on June 27, 2011 at 10:56 AM.
It would seem to me that the majority of the people agree that 2k Sports just gets some things better e.g. (my player modes, presentation, franchise etc...). I think the one exception might be NCAA which has a real nice Dynasty mode and appears to have a real solid road to glory mode this year.

Anyway, I don't understand how FIFA which to me is one of the best series out there gets no love in their Be a Pro or Franchise mode. I haven't heard about 1 improvement for these modes this coming season. If EA hasn't mentioned it by now, it gives me the feeling it isn't going to happen.

NHL & FIFA to me are the best EA games made. But, for whatever reason their franchise modes and be a pro modes are not up to par. Spend some time in these modes. Get developers to work on these modes exclusively.

When comparing what EA and 2K do in sports games it's easy to see that 2K seems to have a better grasp on what makes a great sports game. The advantage with EA is they have exclusive rights to certain sports that 2K has shown in the past that they can make equal to better products. If I had to pick a company to make a sports game I'd pick 2K.

I will say that EA does a much better job right now with the NHL and I agree FIFA is an amazing game that for many american gamers still represents a second tier sport?

I think EA has done a good job with improving its sports lineup. Although it took a ton of time for Madden to finally spark pre-release interest, NHL, FIFA and NCAA have been solid. I would include the most current iteration of TW golf outside of the fact you get screwed during season mode by being somewhat forced to purchase courses or you get penalized.

2K has been a leader in innovation however to say its games are that much better is a stretch. Its MLB series is awful. The only reason people still mention 2K5 is due to its presentation package.

I like 2K and look forward to a day where we gamers can get some competition in the marketplace however EA gets way too much flack. Not saying some isnt deserved but even the highly touted NBA 2K series has flaws that people overlook because they arent EA.

All in all, I appreciate the games we have and dont spend my time digging for every little thing the games dont perfectly emulate.

Sorry, EtheRed, but 2K has gone way down the hill on every regular sports title except for NBA, they don't even bother making NHL games anymore because they were so lacking compared to EA, and MLB 2K which used to be the standard has gone to crap. All Pro Football and NBA being great does not counteract the decline of their other sports titles. Basically all of EA's games are on the rise or leveling off (its getting tougher for NHL and FIFA to raise their game considering they're near perfect), 2K has 1 sport on the decline/competing for mediocrity (MLB 2K is a piece of crap compared to the Show), 1 sport in that tough to improve on area (NBA), and 1 series on indefinite hiatus (NHL). I assume they wouldn't be able to screw up any football series on its first year (basically take APF2k8 and NFL-ize it), but who knows where that series will go if they were to get the exclusive rights (they've already run MLB into the ground).

If one company had to do sports games I'd choose EA, but I'd prefer competition across the board (forget anyone challenging NCAA though, why they snapped up the exclusive license for that is beyond me, 2K dropped out of that in 03, and didn't make a run for it while it was still non-exclusive). I just can't wait until 3rd party developers can make baseball games again.
