Madden 11 Wishlist VOL.5 Improved WR/DB Interaction
Posted on February 24, 2010 at 11:27 AM.
Madden's passing game was less than spectacular. Reasons for that is the interaction between receiver and defender, or lack thereof. The defenders don't act as if their is a WR attempting to catch the ball he just reacts to the ball and tries to make a play on the ball. The same goes for the receiver and his catch animations, total disregard that a safety is about to whack him. They don't respect each others ability in the game, and there is certain routes that are almost impossible to complete because the interaction between the players is not there. Some receivers like to go up and get the ball, at its highest point, eliminating the defender from being able to make a play on the ball until its in the receiver hands. But Madden doesn't differentiate between speed and possession WR.
Now I thought Madden 09's passing game was done pretty good, it was a step in the right direction, but Madden 10 took a step back, in 09 routes like the comeback route worked well and the QB was throwing the ball where it was supposed to be thrown, on the outside shoulder, shielding away the DB, Madden 10, the comeback route develops so slow, and when it does play out, there is no separation, and and the defender will make a better play on the ball than the receiver. Another hard to complete route is the out route to your #1 WR. Out routes are high risk routes because the DB can jump the route and take it back for six, its all about timing and ball placement, neither of this are in Madden, so its a dead route. Hopefully Madden will address these issues in Madden 11.
