Funny thing about Kickers
Posted on February 19, 2010 at 04:42 PM.
The Oakland Raiders just gave Kicker Sebastian Janikowski the biggest contract for a NFL Kicker, but does this come as a surprise from Al Davis. The question is whether or not this strikes a trend for more teams?
NFL teams rely on Kickers and Punters to go out and do their job, yet they don't get too much respect in the locker room or from anyone really. They are constantly heckled by their supposed to be teammates, but the truth is that their probably more valuable than those laughing. looking at statistics, most of these Kickers score as many points as the stars on the team, doing it one and three points at a time. As far as Punters, Dave Zastudil, Cribbs, and Harrison were the only bright spots of the team, Shane Lechler is a monster at pinning teams deep, which is why the Raiders D is as good as it is. So this move by Oakland may shed some light on the value of these "Athletes".

Sebastian Janikowski!!! It has always amazed me how one of the most inaccurate kickers of the past decade could keep a job, and now he is being paid like a game changer. Al Davis has lost it for sure. I believe Kickers & Punters are some of the most under appreciated players on the field, and deserve a more invested part, but Janikowski!!! Come on Al!!!

I'd agree. Sure he can kick it 75 yards, but we won't make it. He is 50-50 from 30 yards out. He just played real well in his contract year so he gets the big bucks. He is going to suck now that he has his deal. Very Tim Thomas-esque.
