The Fight Night series has always been on the verge of becoming a great title. The graphics set the tone for the whole 7th generation of gaming. When they debuted the 7th generation of consoles, they showed the results of a punch rippling the face of a fighter. A sports is what was used to show where gaming could go. Fight Night did drop in a few areas. The reason I say the games were on the verge of being great, is there was always a few fundamental aspects of boxing missing. I'll talk about to the main two aspects Fight Night that was missing, and why I'm sure they would get it right in the next game.
We are all excited for EA Sports UFC. The trailers that have been shown, definitely look like they're setting a great foundation for the franchise. While I love all combat sports, I'm partial to boxing. There were things in the UFC trailer that I have been clamoring for in the Fight Night Series.
The moment they mentioned a emphasis on footwork in the UFC trailer I went nuts. This has been my battle cry of why I can't call Fight Night a great game. Footwork was completely ignored in Fight Night's history. The fact that the team have worked on footwork, is a reason to make a new Fight Night game alone. I can only imagine a boxing game where footwork actually mattered. The way you maneuver across the ring, and cut people off, could determine the outcome of the fight. Good footwork can be the difference from a good fighter to a great fighter. I also think it can separate a simulation Boxing game from being good to great.
The second thing that has been holding the Fight Night series back is inside fighting (fighting in the clench). This is a aspect that the team has been forced to work on by creating a MMA game. While it is quite different in boxing, the principles are the same. I'm sure whatever they learned about creating the inside fight game in UFC, would send Fight Night over the top. Some fighters operate better at very closes distances, while some prefer to keep their distance. Imagine crowding a fighter on the ropes, laying on him, tiring him out, just to knock him out in the later rounds. Combine that with a fighters footwork, to be able to avoid those exact situations, and now we're talking boxing.
I know, I know.... Boxing is dead. I say no! the business of boxing is dead. The actual sport is just as great as ever. Fight Night champion made leaps over the previous installment, and was right at the cusp of greatness. Given a few more fundamental aspects of boxing, and we would put Fight Night in the ranks of NBA 2K, and MLB The Show. We deserve a next generation boxing game. Hopefully having the crew of Fight Night work on the UFC game will help spawn the greatest boxing game ever.

I never really thought about it until I read this, but they really did push graphics when they were released, especially Fight Night 3 and Champion. Hopefully for you guys they'll be able to put another game out. I've always admired boxing and as a fan of MMA, I've thought that the hand/feet work of that aspect of combat is pretty important. Seems like this group working on the UFC game should be able to parlay their work into a great boxing title. A possible downloadable game? I don't think that would be too much to ask for.

Yes, someone else who feels like Fight Night has huge potential but hasn't lived up to it!
