A Blast From the Past - My 2007 forum argument with a piggy fan
Posted on July 15, 2010 at 09:27 PM.
Arkansas is coming off a 2006 10-4 (7-1 SEC) record, Darren McFadden is the premier back in all of college of football, and an Arkansas fan thinks they are on the verge of becoming....relevant.
How it starts...
Me:
Alabama has better team rankings than Arkansas....FYI. Better personnel as well. Arkansas has a Heisman trophy back and that's about it. I'll be interested to see how many games it takes for you to change your team and strategy. I'd welcome your one dimensional offense against Bama anytime.

DJ Hall is better than Marcus Monk

OK after hearing you say this it's clear you are delusional and I can't take anything you say in the future seriously. Here's some excerpts from a story written by Matt Hayes.
Nutt has lost the confidence of a rabid, loyal fan base. One fan recently used the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act to gain access to Nutt's cell phone records and documented calls and text messages with a 48-page magic bullet thesis, which was sent to the Arkansas board of trustees.
This is also a coach grasping for something that isn't there anymore. And he has no one to blame but himself.
This time last year, Nutt sealed his fate by selling his coaching soul. He was on the hot seat and needed three key in-state recruits -- one of whom just happened to be the best prep quarterback in the country -- to soothe the masses. So he hired a high school coach to run his offense (red flag); the same guy just happened to coach the three star players (red flag) -- including that star quarterback, who once said that Arkansas would have a better chance of signing him if Nutt weren't the coach (red flag).
And here's the best part of this sad story: Nutt didn't even need the three star recruits. Mitch Mustain played the most of the three but basically was asked to hand off and stay out of the way as an exceptional running game and underrated defense took over. Nutt could have played anyone at quarterback (he used serviceable Casey *** in the last six games) and still won 10 games and saved his job.
Nearly 30 years ago, Houston Nutt the quarterback left Arkansas after two seasons for Oklahoma State because Lou Holtz had ridden into Fayetteville and installed an option offense. The pro-style passer saw his future and walked away. It's time to walk again.
Nutts Resume
38-36 in SEC play
0-5 vs. GA
0-3 vs. FL
3-6 vs. LSU (0-4 since '02)
2-4 vs. Tennessee
1-1 vs. Vandy
2-2 vs. Kentucky
0-2 in SECCGs
0-2 vs. USC (120 against - 31 for total points)
2-5 in bowl games - wins; Texas & Missouri - Losses; Michigan, UNLV, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin
67-43 overall with 19 wins over the likes of SEMO, Mizzou St., ULM, etc. and 21 wins over the Mississippi Schools, S. Carolina and Vandy.
And the wins that you're so proud of over Bama came mostly while Bama was on probation. The whole damn SEC has benefited from Bama's probation. All this however, is about to come to an end. The days when recruits were picked up by LSU, Tenn, GA, and Aub....and I guess Ark...over Bama are gone. These schools are going to have to fight for recruits now. Look what Saban did for our recruiting with just 2 months under his belt, now imagine what he's going to do with a full year. Go check rivals.com, the Top QB & WR in the country for 08 are both eyeing Bama.
And while I'm on a roll here, lets throw Auburn in the mix. Their days are numbered...they know it, but they just won't admit it. They're too busy being hung up on 9, and 10 win seasons basking in the glory of 5 in a row over a sanctioned Bama team. LSU, Tennessee, and Florida all have National Championships from great caoching and recruiting. What does Auburn have? Absolutey nothing.
*Edit- Oh yeah
DJ Hall-- 62rec 1056yds 5tds -- Bama led the nation in trips to the redzone last year, but we had a coach that couldn't do *** right when we got there. All he did was run Darby up the middle 3 times and kick a FG. Hall will have huge numbers this year....better than Monk...you can quote me on that.

Woo Pig Sooey! I’m glad you find me so comical. I’ve been anxious for your response my friend, just to see if you’re the type that can engage in rational mature conversation, or throw around a bunch of name calling because you have nothing intelligent to say. Your response seems to support the latter.
First, let’s get this out the way, you’re jealous. You don’t have the storied prestige that, The University of Alabama, enjoys. You don’t have a coach of Nick Saban’s caliber. You don’t have 93,000+ fans showing up at scrimmage game, months away from the start of the season. You don’t have the number of National Titles, Conference Championships, and one of the greatest coaches in the history of the game, on your past resume. Don’t feel bad though, hardly anyone else does either.
Alabama fans are not delusional, maggots, or homers as you have labeled us. We are just proud, passionate, and excited people. We do not live in the past, although it’s not such bad past to reminisce about, we are just spoiled, and express that in our love for Alabama football. We demand to be the best we can be. We expect to be a contender every year, and you can call this living in the past if you want. I’ll call it having more passion than any other team in the land for our football team.
The text which you use, to express your thoughts, is filled with the sound of someone being very defensive against someone you know is right. The name-calling, the capital letters, and the LMAO’s are typical tell-tell signs. Just give up now, and save yourself the embarrassment. You will lose a head to head debate.
I’m really curious, why you offer so much support for a coach, which is hated by the majority of his own fans, has a terrible record against the SEC teams himself, and has made the top prep quarterback from a year ago abandon you. These facts are well documented. It’s no secret the fan base in Arkansas isn’t happy with Mr. Nutt. Nutt, was in much the same situation, Mike Shula was, prior to the 2005 season. Our team’s success, saved Shula’s job and this is exactly what happened last year with Arkansas. It's magical what 10 wins can do for you.
I didn’t attack you, I voiced my opinion about your head football coach, to which you took offense. I realized I was pressing your buttons, but thought you might have some conversation filled with debate. Instead, you have just blown up and called me names.
Arkansas has a fine team, no doubt about it, but you better worry about Troy first, before you start your rants that you will own Alabama this year. Sure you won the West last year and have the best RB in the nation, but can Arkansas pass the ball when teams put 8 men in the box to contain him?
Yes the past 4 years we have a terrible record against the SEC. Let me tell you why this has been case. The 2005 recruiting class was Alabama’s first “full” recruiting class since 2001 because of probation, and we went 10-2. The following, 2006 season, was a rebuilding year. We finished 6-7, and 2-6 in the SEC, but you know what… We lost to ARK, TEN, AUB, and MS by 8 points or less. Doing all this the past 4 years with 2 and 3 start recruits. Anyone with even an ounce of football knowledge knows, Mike Shula, wasn’t the brightest coach to have ever graced the sidelines. Mr. Tiffin isn't the best kicker i've ever seen on the field either.
Alabama’s program is on the rise buddy. The good ol’ glory days are coming back. Give me solid reasons why Alabama can't be a contender every year in the next few years. Oh! That's right you can't. Nick Saban, has a National Championship under his belt. The blue-chip recruits are choosing Capstone again over our SEC counterparts. Listen buddy, the days of Bama being everyone’s punching bag are soon coming to an end. You know it, I know it, and everyone else knows it too. You just won’t give us any credit till we win it all again in a few years. Roll Tide!!!!!

You’re the comedian buddy…
ARK- You’ve never had a coach with a winning percentage higher than .760, and claiming Carroll, Switzer, or Johnson’s head coaching success, is hysterical.
Frank Broyles (144-58-5) .708, Lou Holtz (60-21-2) .735, Ken Hatfield (55-17-1) .760
ALA- Our great coaches of The Capstone, ALL, with a National Championship at Alabama.
Wallace Wade (61-13-3) .812, Frank Thomas (115-24-7) .812, Paul “Bear” Bryant (232-46-9) .824, Gene Stallings (70-16-1) .810
It’s pretty hard to see into the future, so what else are you going to do when talking about an NCAA football team, and what they’ve accomplished. I’ve never denied Alabama has been in a slump the last few years. It’s you who keeps saying Bama fans live in the past. I’m excited about the future, and provided you with this information in my last post. I also listed valid points on what Alabama is doing right now. It doesn’t contain a list of past coaches and players… It doesn’t go on and on about, Coach Bryant, and his legacy. It tells you, why Alabama fans; are fans, and why we are a program on the rise. It also asks a question, to which you failed to answer. I’m sorry your comprehension level isn’t high enough to understand the entire post and not just the second paragraph. Perhaps you should read it again.
I find it ironic, that you posted past coaches and players claiming a school of great success? Yet you accuse me, and all Bama fans, of living in the past. Is that the best you can come up with to reply to my post? You think bringing up Arkansas’ coaching history and past players, has hijacked a debate we were never having? So let me get this straight, Alabama fans live in the past, but the only thing you can come back at me with, is a list of coaches and players, who coached or played years ago themselves (3) of whom never recorded a single win as Head Coach at Arkansas, that aren’t even close to the (323-85-17) All-Time (232-46-9) Bama record of, Coach Bryant!?! Stop and think about that for a second.
Do you really think Arkansas compares to Alabama, be it now or then? You win (10) games and the West in 2006, and you think your school’s history is in the same league as Alabama? When you win some SEC Championships, you can talk smack about Bama, until then, shut the *** up about Alabama’s past. Now, here are many accomplishments, UA, has that does not involve Bear Bryant.
National Championships at Alabama, without the Bear, include 1926, 1925, 1930, Wallace Wade, next up 1934, 1941, Frank Thomas, and last but not least 1992, Coach Gene Stallings. How many National Championships for Arkansas does your Dream Team of coaches have again? Oh yeah, (0) recognized, and (2) they could make a case to claim. So that gives Bama (11) overall, including the years with Bear, because we’ll give you the ’64 championship, for sake of argument, because we’ve got plenty already. I know anyone that isn’t a Bama fan, won’t accept that we have (12) National Championships, we could claim (16) if we wanted, but we don’t. Fact is, we still have more than you, and almost any other school, without including any that are controversial
We have more SEC Championships than anyone in our league, and more than Arkansas; post Bear Bryant, because you don’t have any. Go ahead and bring up your South West Conference Titles if you want, we still have (25) Conference Championships (21) SEC (12 Without Bryant) to your (13) Conference Championships in the SWC. We have (19) former coaches and players in the College Football Hall of Fame. We have had (92) All-American Players from the Capstone. Is that enough non-Bear accomplishments for you?? Since you seem to think claiming success, away from The University or team itself, constitutes a great accomplishment for your school, allow me to list a few of our own as well.
Alabama QB’s won the first (3) Super Bowls ever played, Super Bowl MVPs include, Joe Namath, NFL MVP’s , include, Bart Starr, and most recently Shaun Alexander. We have (6) former Tide players in The Pro Football Hall of Fame. Last, but not least, probably one of our greatest accomplishments ever, hiring Coach Nick Saban, a proven “big name” coach, that will produce results. Whether or not he stays here 3 years or 25, he will have left us in better shape, than before he arrived. So don’t talk to me about Alabama accomplishments.
We have (54) Bowl appearances and (30) Bowl wins, both of which are NCAA records that still stand to this day. Some include the Bear, some don’t, and my point has been made regardless.
I really don’t see what any of this has to do with my previous post, but you wanted this info so I provided it. Arkansas is a great school, with great fans, but trying to compare them with what Alabama has done in the past, Bear Bryant or not, is really silly. The only argument you have, and it’s a weak one, is since 1997 Arkansas holds a (6-4) record over Bama, (2) wins being OT wins that you lucked out on, both against a (4-9) and (6-7) team. Do I care? Not really, because of the (6) wins Arkansas has over Bama in this span. Only (1) in 1998 came against a team that finished better than .500. I only mention our records, because you seem to think this actually means something. Everyone has reaped the benefits of the coaching problems, probation, and reduced scholarships for Alabama, not just Arkansas. Just accept the fact; Alabama will be a legitimate contender in the future as the problems that have plagued in the past are history. The “Alabama fans live in the past” card is really the only play you and anyone else ever use when discussing Alabama Football.
Here’s just a few numbers for you to think about. Since 1997, the year after Gene Stallings left we are (67-55) this includes, (3) 10 win seasons and an SEC championship, all without a big name coach. So it’s not like Alabama has fallen too far down, since Stallings left. Arkansas record 1998-2005, (66-44), including (1) 10 win season, (0) SEC titles. Go win an SECC and you can come talk smack, you have to win one of those first though, to be a National Champion
The Nick Saban campaign begins in 50 days. If you don’t think, Coach Saban, will have us contending a year from now…..you are very dotterel.
Alabama’s All-Time record (774-301-43) Arkansas’s All-Time Record (628-426-40) through 2005. ‘Nuff said.
Seriously, you’re not really worth the time it takes to respond to you, but it is fun, so I’ve done it again anyway. This is my last response to you though; to drag this pissing match out any longer is pointless. I basically said all I needed to say in my previous post. This one was just for fun, and to educate you about our history. You can go research your own “great” history if you want to try and counter my facts, but you’re going to have a hard time, finding much of anything that compares to The University of Alabama. If you want a beat down in NCAA08 at the hands of the Tide, we can do that too, you know my gamer tag, and I’m not hard to find. Say whatever you feel you need to say, or better yet don’t say anything. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... I have to admit, things didn't turn out so great for Bama in 2007, but it sure was fun to get into with a piggy fan that thought their program was on the rise. Bama 2008-09 sure did prove me right.
Arkansas has a good QB this season...who knows, maybe 2010 is the year of the Pig?
