2020 Western Conf Finals "Take that broom and shove it."
Posted on February 21, 2014 at 03:57 AM.
As we rode our prior series wins into the Conference Championship, I had some discussions with Cuban and Dirk on how this run was starting to look a lot like the 2011 Title run. A hard fought first series that we weren't supposed to win. A runaway second round win against a perennial playoff winner. A Conference Finals matchup against the number one seed Thunder. We were starting to feel like this was destiny.

With the Conference Finals comes more media coverage, and as game one approached it was all gloom and doom for us. They weren't giving us a chance. Unfortunately game one didn't really change that talk.
  • Game 1(away) saw us jump out of the gate 5-0, but then hit a brick wall. We fell behind by 18 and could never recover losing 91-104. We shot a playoff worst 26% from three as a team. Randle led team with 23/8. Parker went 16/5. Lawson struggled with 5pts on 2/15 and 1/7 from three.
  • Game 2(away) saw a hard fought game with us winning 92-89. Parker had a big game with 24/13/6, and Randle went 22/8. This game showed we could play with the Thunder for at least one game. But most experts still didn't believe we could do it for a whole series.
  • Game 3(home) saw us lose 106-98 as Durant had his game flowing going 31/10/7. Randle led the way for us at 23/8. Ray had 21pts, and Lawson scored 19, but was still struggling from three going 1-7. Once again all the experts were saying, "told you so."
  • Game 4(home) saw them finally shut up. As we won 95-111. Randle once again led the way with 24/6/4. Ray Ray had 17/7 and Lawson had 17. We had 5 people score in double figures. This was one we led from the start.
  • Game 5(away) in a 2-2 series is always a swing game, and this was no different. It was a back forth affair that saw us pull out the win 118-117. It was a huge road win, and we now had some people believing in us outside of the team and our fans. Ray Ray led us with 25/5. Lawson put up his best game of the series going 24/7, and Parker once again showed his all-around skills going 19/7/7. We even had Fabijan Novoselec chip in 9pts in 5mins of game time in a crucial stretch at the beginning of the fourth. The Thunder got normal games from Durant 26/8/11 and Westbrook 33/4/8.
  • Game 6(home) had us coming back home up 3-2 and with a chance to close the Thunder out. Something that no one had given us a chance before now. The city of Dallas was jumping like it was 2011. The game was a classic with each team going on runs and the superstars showing their games. In the end the Thunder were able to pull away and win 127-123. Durant had 30/5 and Westbrook 20/7/11. Parker led us with 32/9. Ray Ray 21/9 and Randle with a double double 17/10.
Now that we had shown the national media we did belong and could hang with the Thunder, it was time for the two best words in sports, "game seven"!!
