This was a year to build on towards something even greater. As it was we took the first step and made the playoffs for the first time in six years.
The first month was a foreshadow of the coming year. Even though it started with an injury in the first quarter of the first game for Jase Lavasai with a broken finger for 4-6 weeks, we finished the month 11-7. Our first winning month since I had joined the team. For the second month we saw a little step back going 5-8, but we faced probably our toughest stretch of road games for the year. In December we went 12-5 and had a very good run with a winning streak that reached 7 games. This led us into the All-Star break at 32-22. That was good for 7th place in the western conference. Jabari Parker was having a career year and was named to his 4th All-Star game and 1st start.
Post All-Star break saw us fumble a little as we went 8-8 going into the end of March. The big news was that we agreed upon an extension with Ray Ray. He loved Dallas and was eager to get something down sooner than later so there were no questions going into a possible playoff run. The day for the deadline on extensions we signed him to a 5yr/70.32M contract. This made both sides very happy.
We ended the regular season on a little bit of an upswing going 6-2 in April. We were able to lock down the 6th spot in the western conference with a 46-36 record for our first playoff appearance in almost six years. The team also led the league in 3pt% shooting .392 from three. We averaged 105.9ppg and allowed 101.9ppg. Which was a tick up and down respectively. A much more respectful difference. Parker capped his career year by making the 1st team All-NBA team. He had career high averages in 21.4ppg, 4.5apg, and 1.7spg. While also shooting 49.5% from the three point line and taking down 6.8rpg.
In other league news, the Thunder finished number seed in the western conference again. Durant collected his third straight MVP award.
Now we get to see how we fare in the NBA playoffs and hopefully shock some people in the process. We get to face the rival Rockets in the first round. They were led by Eric Gordon, Dwight Howard, and Chandler Parsons. Should be a fun series.
