The 2019 off-season was relatively quiet for us. But there was some movement on other fronts in the league.
Our first step was picking up options:
Ray Ray Francis 2.92M
Fabijan Novoselec 1.16M
Chris Sampay 892K
Luca Tomoni 892K
We declined the option on Sergio Munoz for 3.46M
We didn't have any restricted free agents to make a qualifying offer on.
This leads us to the 2019 NBA Draft where we had the 11th pick in the first round. I didn't think we would be able to get a top tier talent at that level and was looking to leverage it for a pick next year when a big target was hopefully declaring.
This was another draft with quite a few trades during the first round. By the time our pick rolled around I was pleasantly surprised to see Dylan Turner a SF with some very potential fall to us. Any other year and we might have thought about keeping him, but with Parker in the fold another 3 years and really wanting extra picks for next year we deemed him to be expendable. That might end up biting me in the bottom, but we'll see.
I had some talks with the Lakers, who in my honest opinion had a terrible roster and I didn't see how they could fix it in one year, even with 39M in cap space. So I figured their pick next year would still be very high. They took a PG with the second pick and were very interested when I came calling with the rights to Turner. We settled upon a deal of Turner for the Lakers 2020 1st Rd and Brett Fitness. I wanted Fitness to replace the bench minutes that Munoz had occupied.
We moved onto the final phase of free agency. Like I mentioned before we didn't have a ton of money to spend this year after the two max contracts the year before. Plus Ray Ray was coming up for extension. Ultimately, we ended up saving the 4M in cap space we had for an emergency during the year.
As for the rest of the league, the one big huge move was Kyrie Irving decided to take his MVP caliber game to the west coast and the Los Angeles Lakers for 4yr/85M. Even with the pickup of Irving the Lakers had no front court to speak of and were still looking good for a lottery pick, which would become mine. This was the second year in a row that the Bobcats had lost one of their top players to free agency. Their were rumors that the players were not happy with how Marcus Jordan was running things. I say "Karma is a bitch."
Other signings: Derrick Williams - Nuggets 4yr/52M; Carmelo Anthony - Cavs 1/11M; Darius Player - Raptors 4/39M; Adam Cameron - Grizzlies 3/34M.
I might end up regretting trading the rights to Turner if what I'm planning for 2020 does not come to fruition. But when you are trying to build a championship team you have to gamble sometimes.

It's crazy how far some good players will drop sometimes in the draft. I tried once to control all 30 teams just for the draft so that wouldn't happen. but just too much work. lol
