NCAA 11 better than Madden 11...Not so fast
Posted on August 1, 2010 at 10:30 PM.
So I am a huge NCAA fan, and a college football fan first and foremost. After the NCAA 11 demo came out I thought it would be the best football experience on a console since NCAA 06. In many ways it is. The locomotion, graphics, and gameplay are all major improvements over the previous installments this generation. I typically only get one football game a year, as I only have the time to play one. And I had no intentions of buying Madden...until I played the demo.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I honestly dont see how people can say that NCAA plays better than Madden. I have played and enjoyed the Madden demo more than NCAA over the last few days. Yeah, there are no major improvements over last years, but I think we are seeing a point in the game's life cycle where it found its stride with Madden 10 and from this point forward the improvements will be minimal.

The graphics in Madden are better, though the gap is closing. The gameplay is still more fluid than NCAA and the new kick meter is long overdue. I am probably one of the few, but I think Gameflow is great on offense once you get into the groove (though I dont use it on defense much at all). NCAA previews/reviews bragged about improved presentation but other than ESPN overlays I dont see a drastic difference from last year's. And recruiting is still a chore.

I will admit that we have two great games to choose from this year, which is always a good thing. However, those who are so quick to count out Madden just because it didnt take the huge step forward that NCAA did will be missing out.

I always get both. But I gotta go with the field on this one...NCAA is beating Madden this year. Trust me, I have the game. Not just the demo.

But I can respect your opinion. Madden's cool too.

The Madden demo isn't bad but the commentary and crowd sounds are. I was annoyed by the strategy pad and I don't like gameflow either.

As for recruiting, I've really enjoyed recruiting this year in NCAA and the dynasty mode experience is great.

Overall I don't think the gameplay will be that much different between both titles. I like how I can pull off better moves in NCAA and I don't like the Madden camera. It's a no brainer for me to be NCAA 11 exclusive.

I put the game speed for NCAA on Slow and it does seem more fluid to me. Not that it was terrible in the first place, but stringing together moves feels better. I just think that the overall package still feels generic in a lot of ways. Though EA focused on fixing the gameplay which is most important, so kudos to them for that.
