Looks like another mediocre year for b-ball lovers...

That being said, based on the draft combine, recent previews, and gameplay videos...I have no interest in buying 2K10 either. I have seen no significant advances in gameplay since 2K8. In fact, I think it's similar to EA with Madden over the last several years. I honestly believe that 2K sports has got comfortable with the critical acclaim so they have substituted additional game modes instead of improving core gameplay.
Now I understand people saying "if it aint broke dont fix it". But what about those of us who thought 2K8 WAS broken in some aspects? I was a HUGE 2K7 fan and I was perfectly happy with that gameplay. However, I can appreciate the fact that 2K Sports wanted to make changes to that formula. It just so happens that I didn't like the direction 2K8 took. The lockdown defense has issues. The Isomotion dribbling is more tedious and unresponsive than fun. And while the animations look amazing, they tend to take over at the worst times. Sometimes I feel like I have little control over my own player. Finally, this is supposed to be more of a sim than Live, so why in the hell can Lebron dunk from the free throw line in every game!?!
For my sake, I hope I am wrong and that the 2K10 demo (wherever it may be) changes my opinion. If not somebody PLEASE BRING BACK COLLEGE HOOPS 2K10!!!!

Improvements are happening. Maybe not in the way you would like, but they are happening. Basketball gaming is in a good area right now - there's compitition and progression happening.

I agree. Though the past two years I feel like the game responding best to the competition has been Live, not 2K.

i thought i would buy both games this year, but after playing the nba live demo it turns out that iwill not be buying it for the 3rd year in a row now. i thought 2k7 was ok, loved 2k8, really loved 2k9, and cannot wait for 2k10.

Disagree. I think this is a great year for b-ball gamers. Live is looking fun and I hate to pass it up but I'm not buying 2 games. Can't say I've always felt that way.

Luckily for me I haven't owned a basketball game since Bulls vs Blazers. I'm in for a treat no matter which title I purchase. I downloaded the live demo and purchased 2k combine. I will more than likely get combine.

sicksteen - If you say that you don't play soccer and hockey games, don't make that blanket statement, then, in your first post then try to back pedal.
And as for my contradicting myself, uhh, no, the proof is in the pudding. Have YOU been paying attention to what EA does every year? Even before Madden 10 came out, a lot of what you heard is how EA comes up with "gimmicks" but doesn't fix the gameplay. You, sir, don't know WHAT you're talking about, at all, not to mention, uhh, I have said SEVERAL TIMES on this site that I have rocked with NBA2K since it's inception, only missing out on 2K7, and a big part of that reason was because I was getting tired of the series plus I was going to get a PS3 which I did get and picked up 2K8 AND Live 08, that year. Due to 2K just feeling stale to me as well as looking ugly as **** with HORRIBLE, homemade arena sounds, I played mostly Live 08, that year. 2K9 was the only game I rocked on, last year and even since buying NBA2Ks every year except one, I've only bought 3 Lives in that span.
Moral of the story? Don't talk to me about **** you don't know, my dude, for real.

This is pretty much a joke of a blog because there's only been one gameplay video of NBA 2k and not even a demo out for 2k. So to draw a conclusion is jumping the gun. I can see your observations with Live because i totally agree about the robotic feel and what not and how they've improve but still are playing catchup. But if you pop in the first NBA 2k in the Next Gen Systems and pop this year's version in, you would see a drastic improvement. I mean your view is vary narrow when it comes to observations, i mean both franchises have added signature style moves, visuals have improved, Crowd animations have improved, etc. I would bet money that you prefer other sports over bball and just buy or play bball games as casual game. I just dont get when people post up pointless threads like this, drawing conclusions before even seeing the final product.

Basketball is indeed my favorite sport. I played my throughout middle and high school and at 30 continue to play today. So for you to assume that I am a casual b-ball fan is ignorant and flat out wrong. And I am sorry to burst your bubble, but Pared who I believe has a retail copy even said the core gameplay is pretty much spot on what you get from the draft combine. I paid for the draft combine (cause I am a hardcore hoops fan), I played it and I have some issues with it. Not everybody feels that way, and I respect that. And I sincerely hope the demo proves me wrong. But it's much more pointless to write a comment on somebodys blog calling it a joke. If you think its a joke, laugh and keep it moving.

I agree wit this blog. Live is making improvements but its still not there yet. I love tha fact that u have control over your dribble movements and moves to the basket. 2k has become a joke...They havent changed the game since 2k8...I call 2k Animation Domination...You have no control over anything in that game. Isomotion is ******** to say the least and LeBron, Kobe, n Dwade are Unstoppable. Jus hold Turbo n attack the basket.. The gameplay vids of 2k are horrible and everybody looks to strong.. The trailers are just like last year, it shows a bunch of moves you cannot do yourself... If Live gets a decent rating, that might be the game to get. If you want to see DUNKS n Moves you can't control get 2k...

Have any of you noticed in the 2k trailers or vids that most of the dunks are Fake...meaning they dont grab the rim...In 1 vid a person dunked wit their Wrist...COme On Now

Secondly, you contradicted yourself saying EA tries to be innovate but doesnt fix core issues. That cant work, how can you think outside of the box, if you cant even build the box right? Notice how every year 2K fixes problems that people glitch on. In 2K10 no more left trigger move, turbo bar, and they slowed the game down. And your telling me EA has that same approach? Forget hockey or soccer Madden is the largest sports game franchise and you cant even get more than 10 different animations per game. BTW, I'm 22 years old so I'll give you a pass for not being a true gamer but a EA fanboy.
