Cincinnati, OH---On a night where Mat Latos had the stuff to earn his 8th win of the year, the Reds bullpen bailed him out and helped the Redlegs escape game one of the three game interleague series with Detroit. Down 1-0 in the 5th, Joey Votto came through with a 2 out single to score the Reds first run of the game, to tie things at one a piece. Ryan Hanigan walked on 4 straight balls in the 7th for a lead off walk; followed by a double by pinch-hitter Todd Frazier. With two on and no one out, Zack Cozart delivered with a 2 run single that put the Reds on top for good as the Reds won 3-1 in a pitching duel. Homer Bailey ( 4-3, 3.08) will take the hill for the Reds on Saturday against rookie right hander, Drew Smyly (5.51, 3-3). The first pitch is scheduled for 4:10.
