Redlegs Update
Posted on July 4, 2012 at 02:29 PM.

Cincinnati, OH--- The first 1/3 of the 2012 season has come and gone, and the Reds find themselves 5 games above .500 at 29-24, which is good enough for 2nd place in the NL Central, a half game out from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds pitching has been key to this team so far, posting a 3.44 ERA through 53 games. Three of the five starters in the rotation has ERA's under 3. Mat Latos has proven he is amongst of the best young pitchers in the game, after 11 outings, Latos has a team high in wins (7) and leads the team in strikeouts. Over his last 4 outings Latos is 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA with 21 strikeouts. On the offensive end, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce are having outstanding years. Jay Bruce is hitting a career best, .299 with 7 home runs and 28 RBI's. As for the 2010 NL MVP Joey Votto, his average has dampened so far in the young season at .277, but leads the team in home runs (10), and RBI's (32), and also is tied in the NL with the most doubles (19).
If the Reds continue in this direction, this team has a good chance of making a run in the Fall Classic. With Cueto, Latos, and Arroyo pitching like they have of late, this will be a tough 1-2-3 punch. The Reds are finishing up a 3 game series in Houston before heading back home to face the Pirates, and the Tigers. Over the last 7 games the Red's are 7-3.
