Too Early to Panic
Posted on June 15, 2012 at 06:37 PM.
Cincinnati, OH-- After coming off a disastrous series with NL Central rivals, Milwaukee Brewers, the Reds continue to struggle at home. The Nationals came into Great American Ballpark on a hot streak, 7-3 in their last ten games, and handled the Reds in fashion. Washington's young and talented rotation shut down the Reds in all three games of the series; only allowing 2 runs per game. "We have came back down to earth," said Cincinnati Manager Dusty Baker. "Its way to early to hit the panic button right now, way too early." The Reds have dropped their batting average of .271 to .258 since going on the road trip against Milwaukee. "We have to keep our heads up, this is a really good ball club and we will be okay," said Joey Votto after a post game interview after the three game swept from the Nats. Joey Votto has yet to be the Joey Votto from the past few seasons in Cincy. During 34 games, Votto is hitting .267 with 6 HR's and 21 RBI's. Scott Rolen has been placed on the 15-day DL with a right shoulder injury, and first baseman Mike Constanzo has been called up from AAA Louisville. The Reds will go on a seven game road trip, going to Atlanta and New York (against the Mets and Yankees). Mike Leake (2-2, 5.24) will face Mike Minor (2-3, 3.98) on Monday night, first pitch is set for 7:10.
